Taylor Swift, official sponsor of the NFL.🤣

Nothing against Taylor, but I am tired of all the Mahomes/Kelce/Reid ads. Guess there's always next year for my team!

jturiano, to Dogs

With the passing of Duffy last fall, we are without a dog for the first time in a long time. ♥

Each dog was an integral part of our family and enriched our lives beyond measure. The memories they left behind are priceless. I only hope we made their lives the best they could be.

"... a man is good if he has a dog who loves him." -W. Bruce Cameron

We get our dog fix now from our daughter's dog Bella, who we see frequently. Do you have a special pet in your life?

Has anyone read this one? I loved Orwell's classic and will have to bump this up on my tbr list.

“Newman hasn’t proved herself a worthy successor to Orwell; she’s outclassed him, both in knowledge of human nature and in character development. Julia should be the new required text on those high-school curricula, a stunning look into what happens when a person of strength faces the worst in humanity, as well as a perfect specimen of derivative art that, in standing on another’s shoulders, can reach a higher plane.” — Los Angeles Times

jturiano,

@jake4480 Yeah, I'm really looking forward to this one.

Nothing like a do-nothing-Sunday after an exciting week! I am really happy to be back in my own bed, so I will spend some quality here. Napping. Reading. Drinking Tea.

jturiano,

@lia_rodehorst Sounds like an ideal Sunday. 🙂

I followed up #GeorgeOrwell's 1984 with #sandranewman's companion piece which retells the story of the original from the perspective of Julia. It's very neat to see more of this world and match events from a different pair of eyes. Still has that depressing overtone, still incredibly interesting and it adds a lot to the mix to help flesh out some of the world that the original didn't explore.

jturiano,

@hush404 Sounds interesting. I loved 1984. It was dark, chilling and so relevant today.

jturiano,

@hush404 Just added to my tbr list! Thanks for sharing. 🙂

jturiano,

@hush404 Thanks, I like that is humanizes and expands on the world a bit. The original was a classic, but so dark.

Every month, we do this cool thing on Liminal Fiction (LimFic.com) to support indie writers. We share 4 of their books with our readers for free, and then add those readers (only with permission) to the author lists. It's a great way to get some new reads, "meet" a few up and coming authors, and forge new connections. :)

May's books are below. Grab 'em here (we send them out around the 3rd of next month):

jturiano,

Great idea and thanks for your support of indie writers. We need to remember:

Thanks for fact checking this. It's unfortunate that some people will not care. I was told by someone that they didn't care if a fake email was true or not, they liked the message. Facts matter and fake news gives credibility to lies.

    jturiano,

    @lillyfinch @grrlscientist
Truth? I agree that unfettered capitalism is not good. However, this quote is extreme and when facts are distorted it looses all credibility to me. When the goal is to whip up emotions and ignore the facts, I question their motives. I hate seeing the left stoop to these tactics.

Found this gem in a free library while camping. Written by King under the alias Richard Bachman, Blaze was released in 1973, shortly before the book Carrie would launch his career. King dusted off the book and published it in 2007...

Tiny websites have always fascinated me, along with internet web portals (which haven't been a thing for many years-- at least in the way we used to know them). I'm talking a simple HTML page with just a graphic or two, and a bunch of links. Something that might resemble the early days of Yahoo, etc.

The idea for this site I made has been buzzing around in my head for a while now. It is NOT responsive, there is NO JavaScript, and there's just a TINY bit of CSS. The whole site (one HTML page) is only about 9kb!

A simple site like this one might look primitive compared to some of the huge, complicated websites we see as standard on the internet today, but this site is guaranteed to work on any browser or device.

I used links for sites/documents that I frequent or use a lot, and mixed in my own personal projects for fun. It's a super simple page-- mostly for my own usage. But I really love the design of it!

I call it 'Mr Beamer's Old Timey Web Portal' 😂

EDIT: I moved it to Neocities! ⬇️
