Can you participate in a thought experiment with me? The posts warning about fascism are good, but I'm wondering what you think fascism actually looks like. Give a thought, and list what it looks like. Don't just say "the end of democracy." List what the concrete changes will be and make it local. "In my town/city/county/state the following will happen......" Think about it before replying. Not just for #BlackMastodon .
Political enemies will be punished (like the dictators #trump admires do)
Mass media will be tightly controlled. Any local radio, TV or news stations that report things unfavorable to the government or criticize officials will be closed down.
School censorship will be expanded. Teachers and librarians who resist will be replaced.
Jim Crow will be allowed at local levels. Segregation will return. We have it in some locations today but it will now have official blessing.
The #US will withdraw from #NATO. Tariffs will be increased and expanded for trade with non fascist countries. Inflation will increase. Unemployment will rise.
@fulanigirl@blackmastodon your question confuses me. I live in a US State. The fascist government implements these from top down. It takes awhile to take full control of state government then city councils then school boards and housing districts. Police are easy to sway. Federal government creates independent armies (e g. What Bill Barr did during BLM protests). Opponents are whisked away in unmarked vehicles (again, Bill Barr did this in Portland OR).

Courts. Undesirable judges will be "encouraged" to retire.
This leads to unrestricted gerrymandering and voter suppression.
Minority districts have polling places closed. Existing polling places have fewer machines, or machines are "broken" (see forgotten power cords in Georgia) leading to long lines. Anyone offering food or water to those in line is arrested (sound familiar?)
Voter registration becomes the modern day version of a poll tax.

Meanwhile in Iowa lawmakers are mad because their law allowing religious displays on government property allows religious displays on government property.
