I just recently abandoned by Lemmy.ml account and also I've stopped doom scrolling #instagram.

I'm one of those "meme friends", you know, someone who does the #doomscrolling for you, and I just stopped one day and released an IG story saying "do your own damned doomscrolling".

This is because Instagram is now filled up with #bots and #contentfarms. For every 30-40 of useless garbage and mindrot, I got maybe 1-2 good videos/reels.

The internet, including social media, is filling with #spam.

This is the colony that never stops growing. Camponotus nicobarensis, but I’d call them Tiger Ants for their stripes and spunky personality.

As people who follow what I’ve had to say on AI “Art” know, I'm more ambiguous on it than most Mastodonians, but having spent a bit of time on #DeviantArt with the filter off, oh my!

It's pretty foolish to let your platform be spammed like that, some people are auto-uploading dozens a day. I think even the prompting is automated. And it's just so… boring . And it barely gets any engagement anyhow.

Also, yes: AI content should be weeded out. Probably by a new form of content ID and a snitch network so every server doesn't have to process the file again. If it's tagged AI generated, it's tagged AI generated.

A retail synthesiser keyboard made in Scandinavia should be of interest to anyone. To my knowledge, only Sweden is doing that currently, with Nord, and we're aiming to be their competition.

@thor so you intend to reinvent the stage keyboard? That's what Nord is known for, mostly. I'm guessing they also carry full blown synthesizers, but when I think Nord I think those stage keyboards with analogue electric organ parts and sampler/synthesis for piano sounds (i.e some DSP).

@thor maybe as EuroRack components? I've seen some EuroRack keyboards, but none with the quality of a Nord. I think the one thing about Nord is it's production value.

It's very resilient too, something which might be hard to do with a component based approach.

@thor also, the action of the keys. This is no ordinary arranger keyboard. Getting pianists to buddy up with a keyboard is hard and lacking the actual acoustics of a standup, the action of the keys are very important.

It's a question of expression and being able to emote as one would on a regular piano.

Listen, I love #fedora. Bar none it's one of the best distros out there, but more than that it's been the stomping grounds for #linux #desktop innovation. Don't believe me? You've got #Wayland, #PipeWire, contributions to #xdg, to the Linux kernel proper, etc. Fedora is more than a distro, it's a #comunity of people who wish to push the envelope.

That's why I am for #plasma becoming the new workstation standard, because of the good it did #GNOME. Let me explain...

When Ubuntu ditched many years ago in favour of Unity, GNOME lost a sizable amount of users required to actually cultivate feedback, participation, which would in turn foster development.

As made GNOME to be the flagship desktop, it helped to cultivate the resources necessary to get GNOME where it is today.

Now the GNOME foundation is the most established desktop environment out there, thanks to the good work of both the GNOME and in part the Fedora communities.

If I were to give a review of the desktop, I'd give it a few honourable mentions because of the effort put in - but I found myself a bit disappointed.

It's probably a problem of release cadence and steering the unyielding man-of-war that is the Plasma stack, which most likely made integration into a challange and a half.

But for me, the whole Plasma paradigm needs to be rethought because usability wise it's showing it's age. This did not "feel" like a milestone.

That being said, #plasma 6 needs some love, some contributions, and #kde could also do well with some funding.

This is where #fedora comes in. Plasma as the default would mean opening the ticket spigot their way, that's IF users stick to the default workstation, which is the speculation.

But at the very least Fedora devs would most assuredly give expertise and time working on certain complex problems that needs solving, which Plasma would benifit from greatly.

For me, I'm holding out hope for 6.2 or something, to come barreling in the door, saying "here am I, freshly dressed and ready to mingle."

I hope that the issues would be solved, like the whole desktop costumizer needs modernising, the various widgets and even theming needs to be finely polished.

Once more, let me step down from my high horse by stating THAT'S A LOT OF WORK. Let's not pretend otherwise. It's easier to review than actually do.

In conclusion, if #plasma were to become the default DE of #fedora #workstation, I believe it would be the shot in the arm the #KDE community needs to become as polished and as consistent as #GNOME.

Whereas GNOME has strict #UX, Plasma is the "design-it-yourself" desktop, using various mechanisms and internal standards, which arguably is so hard to do, that desktop ricing isn't even comparable.

It's a great desktop, but needs some love from users and devs. I think Fedora can help with that.

Can we just gush a little about #gimp - particularly the one situated in the #flathub #flatpak beta repo.
This whole window is unintrusive. The title and window controls are just sort of there, at the top of the window. A standard titlebar, toolbar in a single column to the left, and on the right grouping toolkit dialogues on the top and project management dialogues on the bottom, all surrounding the canvas.
It's more cohesive, more compact, and gives focus to the actual image itself... one sec

This is where #opensource shines. Even if this long-con could have been disastrous, it only took someone with the right mindset looking at the code to discover it. Without transparency, without insight, that most likely never would have happened.

Juxtapose that with government and corporations just saying "trust me bro" while handing you binaries. Nope. I trust #free, #libre, open source software.

#Rust is a modern language for many reasons, where one of the reasons is the STRICT COMPILER.

It's functional, it's type safe, it's thread safe, it's memory and core efficient, etc. It's also VERY DIFFICULT. Some programmers would probably say it's too difficult. But, it's designed with performance and security in mind.

Not only is Rust being used in the #Linux kernel, but it's become somewhat a requirement when working with certain nation state actors.

How do you name your devices? I name my devices after #philosophers. I've had Schopenhauer, Kant, Diogones, Socrates, etc. But for this newly installed laptop using #GNOME #Silverblue, I decided for something a bit different.

My new system is called Fanton, after Frantz Fanton, who studied the psychology of #colonization - that is both the colonized and the colonizers. His statement that colonization dehumanizes both still rings true today.

Fractional scaling is another problem with #GNOME for me. It simply adds a little extra layer of sluggishness and apparently I need to fiddle with the anti-aliasing settings, because what was sharp has become a little blurry. But hey, it's called an experimental feature for a reason.

Better that than having to go get glasses or contact lenses. Blow up the UI instead, please. I'm lazy like that.

But, seeing as my issue is one of #acessibility, you need only turn on "Accessibility > Seeings > Large Text" under #GNOME settings, which does give you the same 1x scaling UI elements, but with bigger text - which... takes some getting used to.

I dunno, guys. Larger text, or fractional scaling. Which is best? Mind you, I have a 1080p screen with high pixel density - which is like having the #HiDPI equivilant of an honourable mention.

Race is a social construct, racism is a political tool.

If you consider yourself "white", then you're obviously just a homogenous trell, a slave to either liberalism, conservatism and definitely to capitalism.

My country Norway became "white" when it was westernised. The people groups all but disappeared, and now you have people out in the stix complaining about foreign influences while wearing cowboy hats and dolos.
