  1. Washington Post CEO came from the Murdoch empire.

  2. He has been implicated in the (still not fully unraveled) UK "phone hacking" scandal that exemplified the sleaziness of the Murdoch empire.

  3. He told Post editor not to publish a story containing references to his alleged involvement.

  4. She published the story.

  5. She's gone.

The NYT added 2 bylines, they're making sure to get their story absolutely straight and covered to write about their peer in the industry.

This reminds me of the tiles thing (officially 'Metro', then 'Modern UI'), everything needed to be tiles, then people started scrambling to find ways to get the old icons back.

Also the demand for a TPM made me convert some Windows 10 PCs to Linux and now they are faster...

And now this, each blow M$ deals itself drives adoption.

The key I find to understanding CSS: Knowing its philosophy, its politics.

In the 1990s webdevs were demanding webdesign. CSS was introduced to steer them towards achieving their webdesigns in a way which embraces the web's "universiality". Instead of abusing tables & images.

Its that dream I share that webpages could "look" beautiful in any conceivable device, given it has a browser.

CSS isn't perfect, it hasn't achieved this dream yet. But the core ideas are great!

Incoming! A severe G4 Geomagnetic Storm is expected to arrive around 02:00 UTC Friday night / Saturday morning.

At least 5 Coronal Mass Ejections took place over the past 24 hours, directed towards Earth. These originated from a large and magnetically complex sunspot cluster (NOAA region 3664).

There is potential for disruption of communications, the electric power grid, navigation, radio and satellite operations.

And bright auroras as far south as Alabama!

Completely mind boggling to me that we threw away 5 billion phones in 2022.

Some of those could have been repurposed: smartphones are hardly innovating any more. The most eco-friendly phone is the one you already have.

We need to publicly support communities like @postmarketOS who work on making these phones repurposable, and @gnome that work on making a polished mobile experience that serves people, not creepy corporations.

Basically it's just the battery that wears down. I remember reviving my old Nokia several times with a new pack. But of course that doesn't fly with shareholder value or whatever so they glue them in, without laws that prohibit that on penalty of hefty fines they will keep doing that of course. To sway politics the first order of duty is to kick out the lobbyists (from any industry), it's all quite simple, follow the money basically.

Back in the 80s before most of you were born, you could buy a word processing program, which was basically a text editor, and you could use it to write and then when it came time to send that writing to other people, you would print it. And get this the printer could take its input from any of those writing tools. There were no tiny little text boxes. The printers didn’t come with their own editors, you had choice and therefore there was lots of competition. Amazing, right?
