@AugierLe42e I absolutely love Matt Baume. I subscribe to him on Patreon to and his subscriber only content is great too; very very indepth.

I am astounded at how advanced a game Elite was on the BBC Micro. This video does a great exploration of the mechanics of it, how it was written, the history around it, and its influences to this day. He also gave a big shout out to others who have thoroughly documented the game as well. #RetroComputing #RetroGaming #ComputerHistory

The news of Microsoft adding all the AI crap to Windows and Office has never made me more pleased to be using Linux and LibreOffice. That decision looks more correct with each passing year.

hankg,

@jccpalmer Any chance it runs under Steam with Proton? I'm shocked how many Windows games I can play on Linux nowadays. At this point Linux is a better gaming platform for me than macOS.

There was never any possibility that would subject himself to cross-examination under oath. I would more likely be appointed to head the RNC.

The press has run with this 'will he or won't he' nonsense for weeks to contrive some drama. It's pathetic.

I just realized that Vox's Future Perfect wrapped itself in the "Effective Altruism" EA language when they launched six years ago and continues to do so. Now that EA has proven to be just narcissistic billionaire's favorite retconning apologetics tool for whatever new sociopathic behaviors they engage in maybe it'd be better to ditch that language. Just a thought

Honestly, I kind of miss this. The software feels much more human and organic, not just because of the depth and shadow, but thanks to the earthy color tones.

I would love to be able to ship accent colors in GNOME to give people more control over the look and feel over their computers in a well-defined way that doesn’t leave them or app developers with broken promises.

hankg,

@claralistensprechen3rd Among many many positive economic indicators. It's not that things are perfect. It's that if Trump had been POTUS and control of congress for the past four years much of this wouldn't be happening. He's already made clear what he plans on doing if he wins, and the only winners are big oil and billionaires. Everyone else is going to get the shaft

The puzzle company The New York Times shows stories on the main page of its app that I, as a subscriber, have to pay extra to read without any marking until I tap on the story. Great strategy.

hankg,

@glennf They don't even let you see the writer's name or the sub-title. With the NYT penchant for shitty title writing that makes it even more egregious. It's even stripped out of reader mode. Ah well. I'm not inclined to give them a dime under their current ownership, management, and modus oprandi anyway.

We reached the point where my brain autocorrects "AI" to "pollution".

All the companies touting AI in their products are now telling me they don't care about making human life more difficult if it can earn them a few extra dollars.

hankg,

@thibaultamartin I was thinking in my head last night that IIRC crypto is using more energy than Argentina and now AI using more energy than France, Silicon Valley alone has already reversed what little gains we've had in fighting climate change. All to do absolutely nothing useful except trying to put more billions of dollars in the hands of a few dozen people. It is pure insanity. And just recently Sam Altman was saying we need to invent new energy sources to power AI. Not fight climate change. Not live sustainably. Just to feed this beast.

Record scratch! Tesla in court said the lack of LIDAR should have made their FSD claims being BS self evident?!?! Have they added ditched the camera only plans because they sure as hell never dropped claims of having FSD “next year” as recently as last month. Granted they never applied for more than Level 2 while claiming they had Level 5 already (at the Semi event) or will have it “next year” for almost ten years now. They are way past needing a legal and liability comeuppance. #tesla
