@gedeonm@ClimateNewsNow to be honest all the oil companies have done is feed the human obsession for fuel. Granted they’ve sat back and taken the money and have NOT sought out or developed greener alternatives. They are driven by consumer demand. The consumer needs to change its habits to force these companies to change theirs. It’s not happening though. That’s the real issue.
@gedeonm I’m just saying, we have the biotech resources to genetically engineer some really crude-oil hungry bacteria that humans could harmlessly be carriers for…
Down the YouTube rabbit hole of vintage board game commercials and came across one of my favorites - Perfection. This game was designed to give kids and their parents a nervous breakdown. We loved it so much! 😂
I don’t condone the destruction of art and in the end acts like this don’t really help the cause. That said this painting by Monet won’t matter in the least by mid-century. None of man’s creations will if we stay the current course. That’s the entire point of these protests - None of this will matter because our society, our entire civilization will be in ruins. Let that thought sink in.
@gedeonm Maybe, but that’s not the choice at hand, is it?
It's a false dichotomy. Destroying art is not going to stop climate change. It just gives you destroyed art. And humanity at large losing a part of its soul and heritage.
The people who can stop climate change - the industrialists and oligarchs, not the lone consumer trying to make ends meet - do not care about art being destroyed.
And no one else’s mind is going to be changed by destroyed art, either.
@denis I don’t disagree. These people are frustrated and trying to do something dramatic to wake people up because nothing else has worked. At the very least they are getting people to talk about climate change and in the end that’s a good thing. The ends don’t justify the means but pretty soon destroying paintings is not going to matter. That’s my whole point.
One of my very first jobs as a kid was an operator for Bell. Two of my aunts were operators for over 20 years and helped me get the job. I have so many stories to tell about my time there. I often worked the night shift 10pm-7am and boy, the planets aligned at night for some wacky, intense calls from people. Had a ton of fun, saved some people’s lives (there was no 911 then) and even talked to quite a few celebrities. Fun job! https://worldkey.io/@LibrarianRA/112537947724277943
Is anyone getting any haptic feedback with the new Apple Pencil Pro and iPad? I have haptics turned on in system settings, but I don’t feel them except one squeezing the pencil. We’re trying to implement haptic feedback in Linea Sketch but I can’t test properly because there’s no haptic feedback anywhere.
Still kind of upset Tears for Fears’ Songs From The Big Chair wasn’t even included on Apple’s Top 100 Albums list. It’s one of the greatest albums of all time if not, the entire 80s.
@gedeonm yeah, not thrilled with their list myself. But I recognize that these sorts of things are entirely subjective, and that some people just have shitty taste.
@gedeonm Given the number of people that have been locked up after Jan 6, I think even Trump’s most enthusiastic supporters are not willing follow in their footsteps.
And just remember: the New York case was the so-called weakest of the four against him. It’s a crime against the country that he’s not moving forward in the other three cases.
I love Ken Burns but boy is he naive. Talking to the "other side" is pointless when that side doesn't converse from a position of good faith. One side accepts facts and science the other does not. One side believes in the inalienable truth that all men are created equal and the other side thinks brown or queer people or women are "less" than a person. We're way, WAY past the point of trying to convince Trump supporters that we're all on the same team. #USPoliticshttps://youtu.be/YzIp1CZn9kk
@gedeonm True as far as committed Trump voters go, but there are a lot of low-information, politically-disconnected folks who don’t necessarily fall into that category.
