Based on the current projections of the composition of the European Parliament, the 2024-2029 legislature is definitely going to be a challenging one.
In addition to Russia invading Ukraine at our borders, a possible Trump re-election that will complicate Transatlantic relations and major energy, technological and climate challenges, we'll now have to deal with roughly a third of the parliament being composed of folks who want to hurt our Union.
Sad to learn the passing away of #ASML-cofounder Wim Troost
Wim allowed lithography development to continue at Philips NatLab during the re-structuring by exploring the sale of the equipment to other electronics companies.
The Philips Automated Stepper (PAS-2000) didn't get commercial success and ultimately resulted in the department being spinned-off as ASM Lithography a few years later.
Today the Swiss Army is landing the FA-18 fighter jets on the highways. It's an exercise to train the pilots at landing on "decentralized" infrastructure in case of degraded airbases. #AlphaUno
Email from Meta this morning:
“To help bring [Meta AI and AI Creative Tools] to you, we'll now rely on the legal basis called legitimate interests for using your information to develop and improve AI at Meta.” #GDPR
.@maxschrems: "The European Court of Justice has already made it clear that Meta has no 'legitimate interest' to override users' right to data protection when it comes to advertising. Yet the company is trying to use the same arguments for the training of undefined 'AI technology'. It seems that Meta is once again blatantly ignoring the judgements of the CJEU." https://mastodon.social/@noybeu/112568210826004406

💶 🇪🇺 Capital Markets Union is important for scale-ups to not encounter a funding gap
🔬 France produces good AI talent, education funding needs to be increased & access to AI compute improved

☢️ Nuclear is a chance for France to build AI data centres
👨🏼💻 Startups are struggling to grow quickly because of the 3 months of prior notice to employers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWXuGuOHMhk
Nuclear is highly subsidized. Every country could subsidize AI computing directly instead.
There is no inherent need for the massive amounts of energy being nuclear.
Which leads to the same conclusion for both technologies: They are not economically valuable.
AI is even worse as it can not work without stolen training data.
I still read a lot of "paper" books and take A LOT of notes which often slows me down. My process is to transcribe from the book, there has to be a better way.
Does anyone have any apps that are very streamlined for taking notes while reading on paper & automatic appending to a note?
Update: Actually, Highlighted is exactly that. Capture OCR highlights from books, export a TXT/Markdown/CSV…

The International Criminal Court application for arrest warrants, and subsequent developments of 🇪🇺 countries recognizing the Palestinian state, are a good test to see if European nations are able to achieve foreign policy goals when they go against US interests, ahead of Trump's likely re-election https://www.bbc.com/news/live/world-69047220
A nation state is not a solution for this situation. But it seems to be so simple.
"Our nation is great, so we need to give them a nation to become great, too."
No, definitely no!
Who decided to recognize a Palestinian state?
Single nation states! This is not a collective EU decision.
(Trump would probably be happy about a Palestinian state, but I don't know.)
