@jonoabroad @yakmoose SolarCity bad. Anyone that sells you the system, better. Plenty to choose from- good deals through harrisons, but they are just salesfolks, and contract the installs to a variety of installers. They do have buying power from what i gather from mate in the business.

I found this thing lying on the sidewalk yesterday. It is atrociously marketed as a disposable vape.

There's not much to it, but it has a usb-c port, so it must have a rechargeable battery. It also must have some kind of heating element, a reservoir for The vape juice, and some way of knowing to turn on the heating element when you're inhaling

@MLE_online a microphone produces an Ac signal. When you suck this will be the negative signal, a blow will be positive. Usually sound produces a vibration at a frequency which oscillates between - and +. A pure suck will just give a negative dc signal. Very clever! This will be whats sensed on the board somewhere.

Saw The Nightmare Before Christmas 30th anniversary in the theater.
I liked it better than 30 years ago, the first time I saw it in the theater, but my hot take is the reason this movie is not more well regarded is almost entirely due to the music.

KC Davis should be essential reading and viewing for anyone with ADHD or depression. They do such important work. They’ve written a book ‘How to keep house while drowning’ and posts videos on TikTok and IG (yes, I know, sucks but that’s where the audience is!).

Their main message is: unlearn the programming we’ve all had around cleanliness and morality. Stop beating yourself up. Hack your brain to do things in a way that is compassionate and actually useful.

Does Hipkins actually believe this tripe? The Greens and TPM ran progressive campaigns, while Labour did everything they could to suck up to the centre-right (eg ruling out wealth tax). Even as it decimated their support. Something we thought maybe - just maybe - they'd finally started to throw off.

Well, an interesting day. Did preliminary counts for an electorate - all the advanced votes. Distributed across 5 teams of 6 people at a table.
I was table leader so responsible for distributing votes to be counted, ensuring correctly counted, and recording the results, before sealing the votes into an official bag.
Hard to say what the mood was because it's lots of little booths with a few big ones e.g. biggest booth was 1700 votes, next biggest 700 votes. Great experience.

Watching the Foundation series made me wonder about a "reverse 4X" kind of game, a strategy game where you start with a galaxy-spanning empire and have to manage the fall. Feels like it could be an interesting twist. Surely this has been explored already... But I don't know what games might have done this.

@danderson @vathpela if we are thinking of the obvious analogy to the one on earth right now, why not just limit it to one planet, and a similar set of choices and tech to what we have now. Conditions like worsening storms, rising sea levels, flooding and drought will provide serious issues for gameplay to deal with. Plus the political structures and trade offs which will exacerbate or mitigate problems.

@strypey 'ABW'... anyone but Winston. Nats are mad keen for power, and want more options than 'David made me do it' on the far right. Witness the regular trotting out of 'the Greens should make a coalition with the Nats', as though the greens are just about Tesla subsidies and organic vegetables (from a Nat voter perspective).

@strypey I sense your betrayed feelings.... But as you point out, it's a serious long shot, with most of what TOP stand for being diametrically opposed to what ACT have as policy. And this move isn't to give the Nats an alternative to ACT, it's as an alternative to NZ first.

@strypey That's probably because Ilam is a wealthy electorate (like epsom) which heavily leans right. So there's not enough labour voters there to be able to secure the seat. The only 'deal' to be done is to get Lux to encourage that national favouring majority to deliver the seat to TOP, just as they have done with ACT in epsom for years.

Morning! Later today I’m giving a talk to a group of young musicians about the job of a sound engineer.

I’m pretty sure the best thing I can do is warn them off and encourage them to do something else lol.

@mxtthxw As a sound engineer, I'd encourage them to keep up their music study as far as they can. The route from engineer > producer (and therefore % credits) is closed off if you don't have enough music knowledge. That moment when the band turns to you as an engineer and say 'what do you reckon....'
