Probably because you're not trying to stack 400 subs in Pixinsight on it

While I was enjoying looking at this incredible phenomenon, I had a device that was continuously counting photons. Several days later, I told a computer to do some math on the photons counted, and this is the result.

So many photos from the eclipse. I don't know what to do with all of them. Here's one of my favorite single subs. This was from just before the end of totality, and the prominences were incredible

For the record, this is the same image straight out of the camera. The only processing done was to debayer it (to make it color) and crop it. My wife likes it better this way. I think it looks pretty cool, even if it's not accurate.

Flamingo Tongues (the name of this snail) are fun to photograph and look at, but they are a menace to soft corals, secreting chemicals to dissolve the coral so they can digest it. They often leave a trail of destruction behind them as in this image. The snail is moving upward to devour more polyps.

Does anyone else like garlic? I spent about 32 hours collecting data on the Garlic Nebula. Well, I guess my camera spent the time, not me. This is a very faint nebula and could probably use 80 hours.

How about that? I just got my first badge on Astrobin. This photo was picked as a Top Pick Nominee.

With a surprising run of clear nights over the last couple of weeks, I've been able to gather a ton of data on a bunch of different targets, but I am still looking for more on most of them. I was able to finish this photo of the Jellyfish nebula, though. This is one I've wanted to do for a while but kept getting distracted with other things.

I've spent a large number of nights the last month and a half or so fighting with my mount to try to get a good image out of my C8. This is the result. It's about 24 hours of good data. I think I used less than half the data I collected.

Here's the project I've been working on during the latest new moon cycle. NGC 1333, called the Embryo Nebula by some, but one of the alternate names in Stellarium is the Phantom Tiara. I like that name better, so I'm going with that.

Well, I meant to post this last week, but work got in the way of actually processing it. The Ghost of Cassiopeia is a popular target in the Northern Hemisphere this time of year. I see it with narrowband filters a lot, but I prefer it in broadband. The thing that gets me about this is it's about 25 hours of integration, and I'm only just starting to see some of the faintest parts. I'll probably come back to this next year to try to bring out more of the dark nebula.

I was finally able to get enough data to consider this completed. The Crescent Nebula and surrounding nebulosity. I ended up with about 15 hours of narrowband data with a ALP-T dual narrowband filter, then I added about 1 hour of broadband data for the stars.

My latest version of the Triangulum Galaxy. This image combines full color broadband data collected last November, and narrowband hydrogen-alpha data collected recently. I think this is my most successful combination of broadband and narrowband data to this point.

Even bigger project! I spent over 31h imaging this two-panel mosaic of the Elephant Trunk nebula. This area is jam-packed with colorful emissions and strange dusty structures. Which do you like better? Foraxx + boost (first) or HOO (second)

Photobombed by an asteroid again, this time 914 Palisana. It's cruising around in the inner asteroid belt, a rock of around 80km size.

Funnily enough the asteroid is named after a fellow Austrian.

I don't know why, but finding asteroids in my raw files is one of my favorite things in astrophotography. Last winter I found one while shooting one target, then switched targets a couple nights later and the same asteroid was there again.

My most recently completed image: the Cocoon Nebula and surrounding dust. This image used data from last summer, and this summer for a total of about 19 hours. I may eventually add more data, but for now it's on to new things.
