We need to stop making sci-fi until tech bros can learn the difference between a warning and an aspiration.

Edit: because this post is doing numbers it’s important to explicitly acknowledge that this is a bad take on a complex and big problem.

Last boost:

I would have a lot more respect for "tough on crime" folks if they weren't so painfully stupid. Car thieves steal cars mostly for three reasons

  • To drive somewhere anonymously
  • For funzies
  • To make money

None of them are going to be deterred by not having a driver's license. Actual deterrent is needed. Catching thieves quickly would be most effective. Following that, removing the ability to fence stolen cars would be next best.

My internet upload speeds are still unstable but seem to be much faster now. Will see if I can do my normal stream on schedule at least.

This has been a bit of a disappointing day from that perspective.

I also love how OSX performance on old machines seems to degrade to pure trash despite having the CPU and I/O both, apparently, near idle.

Best part is, I can't tell if the issue is the machine literally hitching for no reason whatsoever or if Activity Monitor is trash and not actually showing what's going on.

I'm helping my significant other with a project. Today I learned that exporting a sixty thousand pixel wide JPEG from Affinity Designer is kinda slow.

(Why 60k pixels? It's for a very large print)

Now that jack has seemingly ditched bluesky in favor of the bird site I'm half tempted to start cross posting my stuff there. Not 100% sure yet though.

The vibe was very Twitter ca 2019-2021 last time I dropped in. In hindsight that vibe was pretty hostile in a way I didn't notice until moving over here.
