My kid, a computer science major, said that the way programming is taught is "too capitalist" because it emphasizes efficiency and time saving over everything else, and I haven't stopped thinking about it.
@katykaty@ben I disagree. Programming is about problem solving and automating away the monotonous and minutiae, so you focus on living your best life. When combined with Open Source software, its about having confidence in the software you use to manage your life
i’m thinking about reviving NYPHP. Live in NYC (or nearby), and Interested in attending?

feature request for PhpStorm: when the break points are muted, please change the background color of the dubug console, and display a message “break points are muted” above the debug console.
I just lost 30 minutes because i couldn’t figure out why Step Debugging wasn’t working. I’m certain that’ll happen again. Please JevBrains - you’re my only hope
I’m giving 2 talks at Tek in Chicago — Shell Scripting for PHP Developers and Create Better Dotfiles — later this month. It’ll be something to see! You don’t want to miss it!
The quoted article gave me an idea: What if browsers could send HTTP errors to servers. The first one would be “ You have violated the client data allowance of 1MB for this page: your page weight = 2.5MB”
PHP is alive and well. In fact, every year around late November, a new PHP version is released. So if you work on a Linux distro , keep an eye on this ofiicial PHP page, and plan accordingly https://www.php.net/supported-versions.php

Imagine working with a language not designed in 10 days. what do you think? Blog posts welcome
Did anybody else read this and think “wait, people stiil use Eclipse?” then get to the part that “As Europe’s largest open source foundation, which also supports a robust open specification process, the Eclipse Foundation is a natural home for this effort.” , and think “whoa, seriously?!” 😊
Show idea — Star Trek: Collective. It’s an origin story … of the Borg! It starts in a world a little more advanced than our own - by a hundred years or so. They have space travel . This would probably be 500-700 years before TNG.. It starts with a robot workforce. And bringing an AI online to manage it for asteroid mining . There’s some parallels to Caprica, but it’s all StarTrek
You know what there should be more of? defined tech teams. Not individual contractors. Not agencies. Defined teams of 4-6 people who always work together.
@kboyd i like firefox on ios. Having a Firefox account (maybe they call it a Mozilla account now) makes it way more useful. It shares my bookmarks between my devices. Also”Send Tab to Device” is great - which i use regularly.
@syntaxseed “a weird backwards learning curve”, That’s a great way to describe WordPress’ approach to PHP. It’s exactly why i don’t do WordPress anymore. When I re-do my personal website, it’ll be Drupal.
