So far my experience in Berlin vs in Munich is that people are much more likely here in Berlin to continue speaking in German with me, even after hearing me speak English (I mean this as a positive).
I try to speak German as much as possible, but in Munich people switched to English very quickly. In Berlin so far only one person has asked if I wanted to speak English.
In both cities the vast majority of people have been very polite and welcoming either way.
@jessicamauerhan when people switch to English, they usually mean well. They’re trying to help you, by making you more comfortable. if you politely push back by saying “Please, speak to me German. I need to practice.” (but in German, of course), they will oblige. Most people in other countries are glad to hear you’re learning their language.
It also appears to meet or surpass all the rules they've listed for passwords "Your password must contain at least 9 characters, one lower case, one upper case, one number, one special character."
...
Further research indicates that the period isn't "special" enough. They want an exclamation point!
@preinheimer this gives me an idea. Instead of the current system of requiring the user to “include a number’ - use a library to determine the complexity. That way the only requirement is “must take at least 10 years to crack”
As the person updates their passwod, the system would offer suggestions: “try adding a number” “increase the length by at least 5 characters.
All you really want is a password that’s prohibitively expensive to brute force.
Squirrels are little bad asses! They’ll run along power lines 30 feet in the air, then jump to a power pole, and invert their body so they’re positioned head towards the ground. They “stand” there, just casually looking at the ground, mulling over what they’re going to snack on next, or planning their next nap.
@aburka The solution is to pick one, and stick with it. I chose to only split with tmux. The different panes let me see the forest. When i need to see the trees, I’ll zoom the window so that it’s full screen.
The only time i split with vim nowadays, is if I need to copy from one part of a file to another part of the file.
if you need to use both equally, I’d suggest you update your leader / prefix bindings to make splits predictable.
i was just listening to “Never Stop” by FM-84, and I thought: This song would fit right in to the John Cusack classic film “Better Off Dead”.
Then i thought: How cool would it be if we could take 80’s films and replace their soundtracks with songs from FM-84, as well as songs by The Midnight, The Strike, and Gunship. ?
@ramsey You’ve decided to embrace the name Ben Fucking Ramsey, and have officially changed your middle name to “Fucking” on all official identification 😎
Weird! Decided to try the New Media Show podcast. it’s showing as “Live” in Podverse dated May 1, 2024 but the content doesn’t sound current. I think it’s been stuck like this for a few days
@ramsey it was the 20th anniversary edition that came out in 1997. So Jabba the Hut made his appearance 😂 I think was the digital version. i don’t think the original film version is available anymore
@stevegrunwell i have Todoist! I’ll try this. I have it but haven’t made it a habit. I need to learn to maximize my efficacy with this. i’m not “leaning on” todoist like i should
made myself a simple little board today that has a few useful logic gates made from discrete bjt transistors (i found myself breadboarding the same gates over and over and thought i'd save future-me some trouble)
