I like my #aurora photos, but feel a bit of a fraud posting them. I saw only faint grey wisps of mist; it was my #PhoneCamera's #algorithms that imbued that mist with colour and shape.
Is it deceptive to distort reality with these photos?
Or (at least on occasion) are phone cameras marvelous tools, like telescopes, macro lenses, or infrared filters, which can actually show us new ways of seeing?

@vicgrinberg If you have a view of the horizon and a camera that can take 3–5s exposures you could give that a go. Here in Weimar it’s also hardly visible with the naked eye but even the camera screen already shows some green.

Der Erfurter Stadtrat hat sich mit großer Mehrheit für den Bau der neuen Stadtbahnlinie 9 ausgesprochen. Die neue Straßenbahnlinie 9 soll vom Hauptbahnhof über den Schmidtstedter Knoten Richtung Leipziger Platz führen und damit die vielfrequentierte Buslinie 9 entlasten. Für die Linie ist eine 1,5 km lange Neubautrasse notwendig. Die Gesamtkosten werden auf 85 bis 100 Millionen Euro geschätzt. Work in progress on an electric guitar based on Ned Steinberg’s NS-1 bass. I started this one in 1994 but borked the neck because of my impatience. So it was shelved as a five-string-fretless guitar for 30 years. Found it needed a second chance, so I widened the neck, took off the old paint and sanded and sanded and sanded … #guitarbuilding #guitar

Fix for an uneven hole, very badly patched in 1994 … #guitarbuilding #guitar

View of the same guitar body in another angle. The hole is filled with a rectangular piece of wood, grossly sticking out of the rounded body shape.
Yet another view of the same guitar body. The wood patch for the hole is coarsely cut and begins to resemble the body shape.
Same view again. The patch is nicely sanded to match the guitar body shape, but still easily distinguishable from the rest of the wood.

Even though Venus is similar to Earth in many ways, it's a hell-world with a runaway greenhouse effect. It was assumed this was because it lacked plate tectonics like Earth to sequester carbon inside the planet. A new study suggests that the high nitrogen and argon in its atmosphere are evidence from outgassing when it had plate tectonics billions of years ago. This could mean that Venus was habitable for a long time before something went horribly wrong.

My personal sign that I „made it“? Being able to afford Knipex pliers. They are not cheap. I always said to myself that they are overpriced. They might be. But damn, they are also very reliable and high quality. So I invested in two of them. (They were also 17% discounted ;)

@jwildeboer this one’s with me for well over 25 years, probably my favorite tool in the box. Got it from my fathers workshop, who always used to buy the cheapest stuff he could find. I think he pinched this one from his job. Still going strong.

We've been on a wonderful childhood memory trip with our kids lately. We first read Ronia, the Robber's Daughter together, then saw the plays at Astrid Lindgren's World and watched the old movie from 1984 yesterday. This story has magical powers. Not all of our childhood books and movies work for our kids. We can feel it within the first few minutes if they are captivated or not. But Ronia is on another level. 💚

Ganz ehrlich, wenn ich mir gerade anschaue, was in Thüringen passiert ist, wie die Wahlvorhersagen aussehen (und ja, ich bin in Bayern aufgewachsen, da sind sehr viele mir nahe Menschen, die sehr direkt betroffen sind) ... Ich möchte schreien ist gar nicht der richtige Ausdruck dafür. Also schreibe ich über den Urlaub. Als Ablenkung. Weil wir es vielleicht alle gerade brauche. Ich auf jeden Fall.

Ich spiele mit dem Gedanken, mir eine Spiegelreflexkamera zu kaufen. DIe Handykamera reicht einfach nicht mehr aus, gerade auf nur ein wenig Entfernung stößt sie sofort an ihre Grenzen.

Natürlich soll es erstmal eine Einsteigerkamera sein, ja, ich darf mit 50 auch nochmal mit einem neuen Hobby anfangen. 🥳

Ich habe aktuell im Blick:

Nikon D3500

Laut Tests gutes Einsteigermodell, die zugehörigen Objektive sind im Vergleich zu anderen Kameras günstig.
