I love social media.

If a person posts about being fed up with people urging her to forgive and let go over something terrible that happened when, as she puts it, she finally worked up enough self confidence to be angry about how she was treated and how freeing that felt...

...and the top three responses are people urging her to forgive and let go "for her own good"... I would safely say those three people's reading comprehension and empathy surely is lacking.

Genuinely quite surprised at the number of people coming out to say throwing a milkshake at Farage was 'assault' and must never happen to politicians. I absolutely agree politicians should not be subject to violence, but there is a long, proud history of throwing foodstuffs at people as a form of protest. Intended to humiliate and ridicule, not to injure. Pleased to see Mastodon mostly agrees.

Technically it is assault. That doesn't mean it should be treated as if someone throw rocks at him or, indeed, punched him.

We had the same discussion here when someone caked the king a few years ago.

The argument "but what if it WAS a rock" is irrelevant because well... not a rock.

Welp, I knew Microsoft's CoPilot+ Recall was going to be a privacy disaster but I didn't expect it to turn into an enterprise computing catastrophe for Microsoft quite this fast!

But this can't be a one-off. Any large enterprise that has to comply with a regulated privacy environment—HIPAA in the USA, GDPR in the EU, banking/insurance/finance globally—must be considering a ban on Microsoft installations on laptop/desktop computers right now or be breaking the law.

@HighlandLawyer @jik @jt_rebelo @cstross Different countries, different legal codes. But what I specifically was thinking about is if I have blocked Recall on my computer, but have a Teams call with you, or even just send you a mail, you will record it on your side. Even without thinking about it.

People are complex.

It has been a few years since she died now, but our biggest newspapers had one of those "Etiquette advice expert" columns for like 50 years run by the same woman.

What always fascinated me was how super-conservative she was sometimes and completely up to the times in others.

She chewed up and spat out people who were in any way 'phobic or racist or... But at the same time she wrote yards of text complaining about people wearing anything shorter than knee length. In 2018.

#Dog update: very heavy limping in front right leg still. Vet checked, no pain reaction at fully stretched or pressure from below, strong reaction when fully bent and under pressure.

Conclusion: Lage rammed the front edge of his shoulder blade into the bookshelf. Nothing broken. Painkillers for a bit.

Basically best case scenario.

For those who aren’t aware, Microsoft have decided to bake essentially an infostealer into base Windows OS and enable by default.

From the Microsoft FAQ: “Note that Recall does not perform content moderation. It will not hide information such as passwords or financial account numbers."

Info is stored locally - but rather than something like Redline stealing your local browser password vault, now they can just steal the last 3 months of everything you’ve typed and viewed in one database.
