Leftist with an incorrigible love for fancy aesthetics (mostly Renaissance Italy/Victorian England) that might be incorrectly read as a monarchist because of that.

Low-quality artist. Might post my doodles here, though I'm mostly ashamed of them.

I am very much not looking forward to the ceremony tonight

It's gonna be so boooooring

So many boomers saying boomer words about how awesome they are

Do people like
Actually enjoy this kind of event?
Honest question.

Maybe these ceremonies are a thing I'm too to understand?

I mean, they continue to like. Exist, so to me that signals there is someone who must enjoy them.

Count Regal Inkwell, the Lord Inquisitor, favoured by the Princess, leaned in for the kiss. For all the rewards which power netted him, it always came with equal if not greater amounts of stress: So much to worry about, so much to fear, so much at stake every day.

This was meant to be his comfort from the stresses of life, to be in the embrace of Mr. Fluffy Pillow, his Majordomo, the highest-ranking servant of his household, and his beloved, his precious, sweet fluffy boy.

And still, the noble worried. Always. He often joked that he wouldn't be himself if he didn't worry.

It wasn't that he couldn't have the pegasus:
Few would deny a powerful stallion such as him anything, let alone some common-born pegasus. It wasn't that he was a married stallion seeking comfort in the embrace of his servant, he was naught if not a dutiful husband, and his wife knew and did not mind the time he spent with the pegasus.

Rather, what worried him at times like these, always, was quite the opposite:

How aware he was of the gulf there was between himself and the winged servant. In power, in age, in all things. It had been years, and still every night did he wonder if one day the other horseshoe would drop, if he'd find out the pegasus was merely following orders, doing his job in spite of himself. — He very genuinely loved the servant and wanted to see him happy. He would never, ever, forgive himself if it came to light that his beloved had given himself to him out of duty, and that he had essentially been forcing himself on the pegasus.

Still they kissed, even as the little pony in the lord-inquisitor's head reprimanded him for this great impropriety. Still they embraced in their secret little rendezvous.

Fluffy, for his part, thought of nothing, and worried about nothing: His master was a great stallion, as lovely on the inside as he was outside. He took great joy and pride in serving a stallion such as Lord Inkwell, and considered himself the luckiest colt alive, that he was also the target of his glorious liege's affections

Very self-indulgent little piece I commissioned from https://linktr.ee/allocen

I love that “you sound scared” has become a way to shut down critics of AI.

…yes.

yes, I absolutely am scared of it.

No, I’m not ashamed of that.

I don’t hate AI. I don't believe it’s going to destroy us terminator style.

But I’m scared half to hell of the misinformation, political divisions, unemployment, manipulation, spam and deepfake porn and what it’s going to do to our world.

Like it or dislike it, everyone should have a healthy level of fear about what this technology can do.

VinesNFluff,
@VinesNFluff@kitty.social avatar

@mrotteveel @markmetz @Daojoan It's closer to inventing the firearm and therefore gun violence.

That's what a gun is for. For killing things.

AI being used for misinformation, Ads, deepfakes, etc. is not an accident. That's what it's made for. It's what it does.

VinesNFluff,
@VinesNFluff@kitty.social avatar

@radiojammor @markmetz @mrotteveel @Daojoan > AI has many, broad applications, many of which are BENEFICIAL.

No it doesn't. It serves to create endless amounts of useless tosh very fast. It's the dream of middle-managers and spammers and literally no one else.

And that's all I'll say to any defender of this cancerous technology.

EDIT: Anyway you're right about the UBI thing, even if for the wrong reasons. Demand UBI. And if it doesn't come, piss on the government.

There is a giant burning orb in the sky and it can burn your flesh, it can give you diseases, it can kill you, looking at it will blind you, and we all think this is ok.
We like to go to the beach and lay around when this orb is in the sky. Children draw cute pictures of this levitating death ball with a smiley face on it.
What is wrong with us?

VinesNFluff,
@VinesNFluff@kitty.social avatar

@qurlyjoe Because the burning gas orb is also the only reason we are alive.

There is a strong overlap between doomsday "preppers" and right wing weirdos. And that's funny to me because for as long as I can remember, even before I considered myself a leftist, I remember it was the leftists saying "we are on our way to some really bad shit and should do something about it" and the right wingers pretending it was all a hoax.

Also the doomiest leftists I ever met were the ones interested in learning how to do agriculture and first aid and other useful skills, whereas "prepper" culture is all about rusty tins and gun hoarding. Almost like they're "Prepping" to steal what the lefty survivors build.

But hey that's none of my business 💅

The thing is about Australian wildlife is that most Aussie animals won’t back down from a fight, but most of them don’t go looking for a fight either.

If you’re worried about visiting Australia because of our deadly fauna, here’s a hint. If you see an Australian animal, walk away from it.

A kangaroo has trouble disemboweling a retreating person because its attack involves rocking back on its tail and kicking you with both feet. It’s not really able to do any damage on something that’s moving away.

Magpies will generally let you know where their territory is, and if you stay out of it while they’re nesting, they won’t knock a hole in your head.

You literally have to get in the water to be bothered by sharks or crocodiles. Swim where the locals swim.

Snakes and spiders are about the only thing that you might happen upon by surprise and they tend to be happy to let you leave, but will happily fuck you up in self defence.

Y’see, Aussie wildlife mostly kills idiots who approach it, try to pat it, or catch it. Our animals mostly kill and maim stupid people.

I guess, my point is, we don’t have anything like lions or bears that will chase you down, pull you out of your car and tear you to pieces.

Also, the chances of being shot in this country is almost non existent.

Australia’s a pretty safe place to visit, comparatively.

VinesNFluff,
@VinesNFluff@kitty.social avatar

@dgar I once had a different aussie tell me that the real worry with Australian aminals isn't "they'll kill you", it's the property damage they can cause, and how it's usually the "harmless to human" creachers doing the property damage.

Never checked if true and I live pretty far away from Australia, so...

What would the play (according to me)

Twilight: Crusader Kings, nerdy monarch hours
Pinkie Pie: Fortnite, or whatever is popular at the period. She's in it for the social interaction
Rainbow Dash: Forza Horizon. Car go fast.
Fluttershy: Any cozy sim. Aminal Crossing works. But also Stardew Valley and such.
Applejack: Backgammon (Applejack doesn't trust computers)
Rarity: Plays soulsborne games just to wear the pretty costumes. Is terrifyingly skilled at them because she doesn't CARE what the stats are, she is wearing that dress!

Starlight: Red Alert 3. She is going to the one place that has not been corrupted by capitalism. SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSPACE
Trixie: Magic - The Gathering. THE GREAT and POWERFUL Trixie — Is homeless and has no electricity in her trailer. But she enjoys the cards and the pretty art.
Sunburst: Pentiment. Just this incredibly brainy and grounded historical narrative game.
Tempest Shadow: Devil May Cry. She is the storm that is APPROACHING, PROVOKING black clouds in isolation!

Celestia: Okami. It's about her!
Luna: Hearts of Iron IV. No, this is not a joke about our Luna. I just think Luna would enjoy LARPing as a dictator
Cadance: The Sims. Gal keeps charts of all the relationship drama in her The Sims neighborhoods.

Applebloom: Dwarf Fortress. She's the brains of the trio!
Sweetie Belle: Guitar Hero. Rock Band. Moosic games!
Scootaloo: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. It's totally rad!

danyork, to threads
@danyork@mastodon.social avatar

It's great to see that #Threads is getting serious about offering #ActivityPub integration so that communication can happen with #Mastodon and the broader #Fediverse.

We NEED open, interoperable protocols that for this kind of communication and interaction. It's a key way to unlock the walled gardens that control so much of messaging.

And it's great to see a company the size of Meta getting behind ActivityPub. Kudos to the teams involved.

VinesNFluff,
@VinesNFluff@kitty.social avatar

@wall0159 @danyork @Techmeme People have a short memory. It's called 'embrace, extend, extinguish' people, and tech megacorps aren't even ashamed to admit they do it.

VinesNFluff,
@VinesNFluff@kitty.social avatar

@danyork @wall0159 " is small" is a non-argument, for monopoly-builders like Zuck.

It's not about the threat something poses. It's about being the only game in town because that gives you power.

On a material level it means Threads can be as shitty as it wants and people won't leave because no alternative exists. Doesn't matter how agressive they make the monetization or the tracking. Doesn't matter how much their algorithm makes the experience suck. Doesn't matter if people are censoring innocuous words like "Commission" because they get you unpersoned by the algorithm. It's the only game in town, so they can do whatever they want.

And on a deeper level, Zuck being the white supremacist that he is, if his platform is the place where everyone talks, he can direct the way society goes, as he did with Facebook.

By enveloping and consuming the fediverse they can ensure that corporate social media remains the only social media.

VinesNFluff,
@VinesNFluff@kitty.social avatar

@danyork @wall0159 Also more broadly, if all they wanted was to play at being "competitive", they wouldn't need to touch butts with the fediverse at all.

Not when BlueSky exists and is a fellow corporation (with billions to its name).

Not when Xitter isn't quite dead yet (and Threads is quite clearly just "twitter from a different brand")

They wouldn't be bothering with the fediverse if it weren't for the powergrab angle.

VinesNFluff,
@VinesNFluff@kitty.social avatar

@danyork @wall0159 But ay, maybe I can't change your mind and that's fine. Just. In ten years' time when the fediverse is dead and Threads is dancing on its corpse and we are all trapped in MetaGoogle's cage again, just remember this gay little larper tried to warn you 💅
