#dnd #ttrpg #osr folks: I'm looking for a good supply of maps that would work for a long-forgotten city in a steaming jungle. I really just want the maps - I can make a normal dungeon map myself, but I'm less confident in above-ground ruined cities.
Any suggestions? I'm looking at Ruins of Adventure and Dwellers of the Forbidden City (gonna grab the pdfs online) but if you can think of anything that fits the bill please let me know!

@nickdrawthing First idea: look for the maps of real abandoned cities. There should be enough around from Greece, Roman Empire, Aztec Empire, ...

Take Pompeii. Lots of published maps to draw inspiration from. 😄

Ah! Finally I found the original language version of a book, I liked as a child: The Magic City

I didn't remember the title or author, so it was hard to search for it. More so, as I only read the German translation.

I knew, I read books by Edith Nesbit, so I looked at your listing. And the first try showed me the correct one. I recognized it by the drawings. Thanks a lot for providing this.

Only downside: No PDF version. When I've got time™, I'll probably will build one. 😄

Nachdem jetzt das Solarpaket Balkonkraftwerke erleichtern soll: Ähnliches gab es schon vor 115 Jahren. George Cove bot Solarpaneele in Haushaltsgröße samt Batterie an. Zwei Tage Licht bedeuteten eine Woche Beleuchtung, was 1909 durch die Presse ging: demokratische Energie! Was geschah dann? Cove verschwand. Er sei entführt und bedroht worden, seine Firma aufzugeben, sagte er später. Was immer geschah, "The Sun Electric Generator Corporation" war kurz darauf Geschichte.

Bitte solche Berichte immer skeptisch lesen.

Im Endeffekt besteht dieser Text zu zwei Dritteln aus Spekulation. Diese startet ungefähr beim ersten Verweis auf die Ölindustrie und Edison. Nur weil diese für ihren rauhen Geschäftsumgang bekannt waren, heißt das nicht, dass sie auch hier involviert waren.

Ja, es könnte so gewesen sein. Genauso kann Cove einfach ein schlechter Geschäftsmann oder ein Betrüger gewesen sein.

Eines seiner Geräte zu finden wäre jedoch echt klasse.

Don't just complain. Write your local EU parlamentarian and ask, if (s)he could intervene on behalf of the #EU #Fediverse presence. Especially with the upcoming elections, this will have at least some impact.

By the way:
A classic letter - yes, written on dead tree - has more impact than just an email. Keep it polite and explain your personal motivation to write.

This is one of your rights as a citizen in a #democracy. Write your parlimentarians!

    When I opened my digital Sunday newspaper reading I was surprised to see a German translation of right at the top. I thought "Oh, at last the word arrived in Germany," before I saw it is a translated essay¹ by @pluralistic himself.

    Translating is a hard job. No question. But the text again confirmed my preference, to read the original (if I can). It uses several phrases, that are common in English, but very unusual in German.

    Ich sehe eine Verbrecherbande im Fluchtwagen mit Schrittgeschwindigkeit durch die Spielstraße "rasen". Verfolgt von einem Polizeiauto, das genauso schnell unterwegs ist.

    Sorry, so funktioniert mein Comic-Hirn leider viel zu oft.

    Ich unterstütze den Vorschlag. Insbesondere, weil es sich dann auch nicht mehr lohnt, ein total über-motorisiertes Fahrzeug zu kaufen. Will man mal schnell fahren, miete man sich auf dem Nürburgring ein.

    Small brain: fantasy books come in trilogies.

    Big brain: LOTR was only broken into three volumes for publishing reasons and the trilogy is arbitrary.

    Galaxy brain: the publisher simply brought out the existing three-act structure of LOTR that is inherent to most fiction and so a trilogy is a natural and valid format.
