Linux, to Massachusetts

Not a cloud in the sky ALL day, and now, 1 hour before the eclipse, and the clouds are rolling in.

Welcome to New England (Western Massachusetts) where every celestial event, night or day, is greeted with cloud cover.

Linux, to windows

My revised Linux distro recommendations for newbies.

  1. Ultramarine Linux

  2. Fedora (KDE Spin)

  3. Manjaro Linux *

  4. MX Linux (KDE)

Suggested distros that are still newbie-ish friendly, but may require some basic skills, beyond "blissfully ignorance"

  1. EndeavourOS

  2. CachyOS

  3. Regata OS

  4. Alpine Linux *+

  • Recommend for systems 15 years or older with 4 GB of Ram or less.
  • If you are OK with a setup that will ask you simple yes/no questions, but in a terminal screen (still friendly and easy).

Linux, to ubuntu

Remove, Snap. -- WHY?

Canonical Ubuntu's Snap has hosted more scam apps than Microsoft Store, Apple Store, Google Play Store, or Flatpak. -- Let that sink in.

If you're a Linux user, use Flatpak. Do not use or trust Snap. Ubuntu refuses to conduct proper reviews, and it's getting scary. Do not trust Snaps.

#Snap #SnapStore #Ubuntu #Canonical #Linux

Linux, to fedora

I've not been distro hopping in a while, because I seem to have settled on Ultramarine Linux. It's Fedora, with all the media codecs, drivers, firmware, and repos already included, but without the bloat some other Fedora spins try to bundle in.

Linux,

I am in Easthampton, Massachusetts, and my sister is in Springfield, Ma and she felt the earthquake too.

Linux,

Western Mass News (WGGB) is reporting on the earthquake.

  • edit - Report updated suggests the Earthquake took place in New Jersey and caused us to feel it all the way up here.

Linux, to fediverse

"Omg... Joe Biden is the 1st President posting in the Fediverse"

No, Joe Biden is using mainstream social media, owned by Meta (Facebook), which most of the Fediverse blocked a while back. If POTUS (President of the United States) wants to join the Fediverse correctly and hold that claim, they need to join a true Fediverse instance such as Misskey, Sharkey, Mastodon, or something else not government a large corporation which avoid paying taxes.

Keep looking toward Europe and Asia -that is where you'll see the future.

Invidious is finally fixed. Took a while, but good to have it back.

Linux,

@chikorita157

I'm still getting the: "The media could not be loaded, either because the server or network failed or because the format is not supported."

You can use this guide on any instance. Meaning, whether you join someone's Sharkey or host your own, this works.

Hello!

A new version of invidious is available!

Huge thanks to LuanRT from the youtube.js project. He's the one who found a fix!

Please wait a few minutes for the container releases to be available through Quay (especially the arm64 one).

-SamantazFox.

Linux,

@invidious

So far, I am still getting the notice: "The media could not be loaded, either because the server or network failed or because the format is not supported."

Linux, to firefox

Do you want Firefox to be faster and use fewer resources?

In your address bar type about:config and press enter, then proceed past the warning. Search for pocket, sponsor, VPN, account, relay, and promo.

With each search, change all values from True to FALSE and replace every URL to 0.0.0.0 Then close and reopen your copy of Mozilla Firefox. - Enjoy!

You cannot connect a printer via USB as the option remains grayed out (see photo). But you can add a network printer.

If using a Brother MFC-L2740DW select the generic simple printer driver. Do NOT select the recommended Brother Printer Driver as it will cause your printer to endlessly spit out paper until you physically select cancel on your printer.

Would the REAL "that woman from Michigan" as their profile self proclaims, please stand up?

@jeze @jeze

I think that is your 15th account now? lol -- I moved 3x in 1 year and thought that was excessive, but you keep on hopping from place to place. I think you should start your own Sharkey or Mastodon server (instance), because whatever you're looking for is not going to be found elsewhere. lol

Linux,

@jeze @jeze

I was only teasing you. I followed up by pointing out, you're not the only person who has many accounts or hops from place to place.

I am not a fan of Lenny. The developer was pro-segregation and anti-LGBTQ (basically a Nazi). I preferred Kbin as an alternative to Lenny.

Lyft's new policies should be illegal.

You cannot manage your account, including cancel your membership, or delete your account without the app. The website will log you in, but then tell you that you must use the app.

I decided to cancel my membership and delete my account, because the app also will not work without Google Play Services either. The app will open, show you a notice that you need it, then close.

But putting that aside, you should at least have access to your account without your phone by visiting their website. I had to use someone else's phone just to log in, cancel, and then delete my account.

Today, I learned if you're under the age of 14 and living in Florida, it is technically now illegal for you to use social media, and technically that arguably would mean the Fediverse too.

Good luck enforcing that nonsense.

13-year-old me, would have been laughing my a** off right about now, as I logged in and did whatever I wanted.

Linux,

On the surface, at face value, on principle, I could respect this law. But realistically, it is not going to do anything. Most people will just lie about their age, and statistically, most people are not going to upload a photo ID to use social media. On Meta, some accounts are flagged to do just that under special circumstances and most either choose not to do so, or end up making a new account.

Linux,

@NaraMoore

In my opinion, you should not. If most people read and understood our TOS, they would not install our app.
