for decades, a lot of the #FOSSI worked on has been decades behind bleeding edge technology. Recently, I'm involved in FOSS implementing GSMA SGP.32 IoT #eSIM infrastructure. That's before there are even any production deployments at all, before there are even any proprietary implementations out there. Exciting!
@LaF0rge well, obviously that's not how software development is supposed to work these days... better have a faxnumber for a gitlab instance, to which you can send diffs which get turned into branches + merge-requests (which, inturn, you can comment on, and sign-off, and approve by fax).

Some code related to "PFCP offloading" or "PFCP tunneling" has just appeared in mainline linux. Oddly enougn PFCP is not a tunneling protocol, and the code itself claims its not implementing PFCP. Trying to find out more about it: https://lists.openwall.net/netdev/2024/05/15/95#linux#3gpp#telecom - if anyone knows more, I am very curious.
I'm always surprised how much fun it is to debug mechanical problems instead of IT problems. I need more spare time for car and motorbike servicing. Today: engine oil leak due to [probably improperly installed] shaft seal
@cristianyxen I did service motorbikes (and still do) for decades, servicing cars never really felt as much fun, but it seems lately I'm getting the hang of it. I still really dislike driving them, though.

Manual work is very satisfying.
I have diagnosed and repaired a loose contact of the neutral gear of my motorbike.
Unfortunately, I don't have anywhere nearby where I can do this.
That's why I mostly work with wood in my cellar.
Time for some relaxing car repairs (I really do enjoy mechanical work while listening to podcasts). Mh, no wonder this shaft seal doesn't really seal anything

In two weeks I’ll have the chance to talk to the folk who got me this PC in the 90s when they worked at TN. Maybe they have a handbook or a picture of the it. That would be cool.
@malte it's quite usual for material (data sheets, marketing material, manuals) from equipment designed in the pre-internet days like a 286 class PC to never have existed in digital form. And even a lot of technology from the mid to late 90s often is not well documented/preserved on the internet as mass storage was still very expensive, companies went bankrupt, etc.

Verstehe ich das richtig: im januar veröffentlicht das land berlin eine pressemitteilung in der steht: ab sofort mißachtet der staat ein gesetz. Außerdem bedankt sich der staat bei allen beschäftigten, die bis zur veröffentlichung der pressemitteilung an der einhaltung des gesetzes gearbeitet haben für ihre geleistete arbeit.
Die großen medien berichten nicht oder nur mit kleinen meldungen. Es gibt keinen öffentlichen aufschrei. Keines der medienunternehmen, die im internet regelmäßig "eilmeldung", "breaking news" banner schalten, schaltet ein banner. Keine der talk shows wie lanz, maischberger, hart aber fair, mioska usw macht eine sendung dazu. Weder boehmermann noch nuhr oder sonneborn thematisiert es. Es gibt keine demos oder presseerklärungen.
Dann 4 monate später wird es doch öffentlich - aber nur in einem kleinen gallischen unbeugsamen sozialen medium das caesars legionen widerstand leistet.
Es gibt da diesen "Chilling-Effekt": wenn polizisten, staatsanwälte und richter befürchten müssen, dass unbescholtene bürger ihre arbeit anlasslos überprüfen und wenn sie ein fehlverhalten, wie vorsätzlich es auch sein mag, nicht nur aufdecken, sondern auch anprangern, trauen sie sich in vielen fällen einfach nicht mehr eine unrechtmäßige funkzellenabfrage anzuordnen, durchzuführen und auszuwerten. Da der Artikel 1 des Grundgesetzes: "Die Würde von Polizisten, Statsanwälten und Richtern ist unfassbar." als konsequenz des unrechts das Polizisten, staatsanwälte und richter während des dritten reichs tatenlos mitansehen mussten, eingeführt wurde, wäre es also fatal, unbescholtene bürger ungefragt mit infos ihrer überwachung zu überschütten.
