    Fun fact!
    Sean Astin and I were born on the same day, same year, possibly around the same time of day, a couple hundred miles from each other.
    Him in California, me in Colorado.
    I have also aged better than him despite him being rich as hell from birth and me never taking care of myself.
    He's literally my metric.

    Yeah, my wife watches a lot of YouTube and so much more of it is written and read by ai now.
    That and kids who have never words like paradigm, plague and 5 other words I can't remember actually pronounced in their life and how they pronounce them is...mind blowing.

    It’s just been pointed out to me that the reason Apple runs a trade-in programme for older devices is so they can reduce the size of the used market, and has fuck all to do with recycling.

    Move-in inspection went well. There's, sadly, a fair bit of minor damage to the floor.

    I gather the last tenant really trashed the place which is too bad. I feel for them. But also... they splattered bright paint literally everywhere. It's ground into the floor.

    THANK FUCK it's all hardwood tho.

    Pupper loved the place, happily ran around and loved being able to run into the backyard.

    HOPING all my furniture fits okay.

    Isn't moving weird?
    You spend so much time dreading it and putting it off, then planning, packing, wrangling logistics and you're absolutely sure you'll never get through it.
    And then somehow, moment by moment, day by day.
    You do.
    In a couple months you'll be wondering why you were so worried and how it was the only way things could have happened.
    But in the end, so much of life that involves major change is like that.

    Today's D&D session was so fun. The players are embarking on an adventure that was designed to tie into one character's backstory, and by a lovely bit of serendipity, tied into a new character's story too!

    My players are loosening up, getting more RP in that isn't directed by me. I think I'm really starting to come into my own as a DM too. Obviously lots to learn, but I'm feeling more and more comfortable with it.

    Every session is an opportunity for you and your players to learn and do more.
    It does feel good when you can step back and just enjoy the play too.
    Fights are cool and stuff and I love to run interesting enemies but the important stuff we often gloss over happens in between those encounters.

    Relatively new myself, considering my age.
    In both my groups we learn together. There is at least one player in each group that knows the structure of the rules system of 5e that we can always puzzle anything out.
    Typical exchange at my tables is "I'm using x" "what does x do?" They read it, it either sounds reasonable and we go with that or if it doesn't make sense, Google it.
    Never steered me wrong.
    And next time we all remember.

    3 hours seems to do it for my groups.
    Plus I tend to stand the entire time and it's all I can take.
    I just did 2 nights in a row, and as fun as it is I'm glad it's not happening again till Friday.

    My DM just gave my lvl 4 Barbarian a +2 Greatsword...

    And I just hit a 20 Str.

    With a +9 to hit I'm having a fucking GREAT time.

    Great Weapon Master ALL THE WAY.

    I am sad that this party isn't overly inclined to RP. I've tried to get some going... nada. But the DM has given me some beautiful moments that made me (the player) tear up.

    Thinking about doing some kind of a journal or something to really give this character the story she deserves.

    Reckless attacks combined with great weapon master can give you a plus 16 or more to damage.
    Combined with path of the bear, that's a monster right there.

    Well, reckless attack helps you hit.
    And great weapon master increases damage.
    I was spitballing because I don't know your build.
    My build was something like a plus 6 weapon plus the 2 from rage and the 10 for great weapon master.
    Sure, your at disadvantage on hits to you, but who cares, with a path of the bear totem your half damage on all but psychic, raging.
    Get a ring of psychic resistance, you're all set.
    You've pretty much doubled your HP.
    It's a monster build.

    I feel like I'm doing it wrong, because I've already put in more hours than I'm intending to GM this thing.
    But I'm also a bit rusty, not having GMed in five years or more. 😬
    There's also a fair chance that I'm estimating the playtime wrongly. I expect 2 sessions with 2-2.5h each, but with three possible combat encounters that can easily blow up to 3 or 4 sessions.

    I've used a couple of them.
    Nice guy too, I've emailed back and forth with him.
    He used to write for TSR, back in the day.

    Made surprising amounts of progress in prepping my next DnD adventure. 💪
    I'm still struggling with the finer points of the actual plot, but I feel like the maps and encounters are pretty much ready.
    I don't want to put too much effort into the plotting, but as things are now they don't even make sense to me.
    It's very likely that my players wouldn't notice, but it bothers me. 😅 Eventually they'll also want to talk to the NPCs and things might unravel real fast if I don't have a clear idea. 😬

    I recently changed they way I write and have multiple locations and npcs that all relate to the main plot and it makes it more of an open sandbox feel.
    I used to write straight modules with a main goal week to week but as the pcs get higher level this seems to be working better.
    It helps that they're currently in a small place and if it was a city it would be harder but it's working well and everyone is enjoying it more.

    I did the exact kinda thing.
    I flushed out locations and npcs for a whole lot of Port Nyanzaru and maybe 1% of it was actually explored. I had npcs, locations, mysteries, secret tunnels from 1 location to another. Factions, you name it.
    But the good thing is, that all still exists and they can come back anytime and explore it.
    So it wasn't a complete waste.
    I think I learned you have to railroad them for a bit, then everyone gets used to it and you can let off the chain a bit.

    It's funny. My pcs are level 11 and have the hang of most things, but the last session they had a planning phase and they all just locked up. After a minute of silence I had to do the whole "well, Here's what you know, what you have, what your goal is" speech.
    That got them going again.
