It's been a long time since I posted here. I've been quite busy setting up a new CPA/Accounting Practice in Atlanta. U.S. voters need to be 100% clear: if we re-elect this man, our democracy is finished. He will turn the weapons of law against his opponents (us), and arrest, try, convict, sentence, imprison and/or execute them. Is this the country you want to live in?

Well, and one comment about social media. It doesn't have to run your life. It's good to have around and check in or say something every now and then.

I like it as a side note. A bit personal, not too sensational, and sometimes informative.

I also enjoy some of the political comments - from rational people.

And after a while on Mastodon, I can't imagine ever going back to the others.

@rebeccawatson Good article. My wife and I chuckle and make jokes about these commercials all the time on MSNBC. Especially after noticing bottles of it on my 92yr old dad's kitchen table who yes, runs FoxNews all day long. Unfortunately, a lot of people waste a lot of money on these things - on both sides. Whatever the side, this advertising is so misleading, and just simply - wrong.

Anyone else find it unseemly that Trump is on camera hawking T-shirts with his mug shot on them? This is the man so many tens of millions adore and want returned to office. Hard pass. And ugly photo. Really mean and ugly.

In Zen there’s a saying, “for those with no preferences the supreme way is easy.” This makes perfect sense in meditation practice, but in daily life? It does make me wonder however, where the choices we make come from. I also wonder if given the exact same set of circumstances we would make the exact same choice every time. It’s as if there’s a single choice within us that’s an exact match for every moment.

Lying on the corner of my bed after a deeply satisfying roast chicken and ravioli dinner, waiting for dusk to fall far enough for an evening walk in the Georgia hills; huge trees and plentiful bluebirds. Good company. This is my life #today.

    @jeanettepizzurro They just showed up in my front yard the other day. We usually have a large number of Chanterelles every year which my neighbors trade for fresh eggs. This year these beautiful little red ones popped up.

    I've been good, just taking a break from social media lately and focusing on my early morning Zazen meditation practice at the local zendo. Spending more time in ATL this month and staying away from the TX heat and potential hurricanes.

    @Hey_Beth @jeanettepizzurro Thanks, Beth. All good. It's been nice here in ATL lately (lower temps, lower humidity), so we're hanging out here for a while. Also, school's starting;one in 6th grade and one in post grad school, so there's that too. :)

    We did spend a lot of time in TX this year on 3 great vacations, visiting family, swimming in the pool (every single day), and enjoying some of the fine arts and other activities in Houston. One of the highlights: the Broadway musical Wicked.

    Traveling back to HotTexas for another family visit and last week of summer vacation for the kids. Woke up super tired w a sore back from an uncomfortable hotel bed and a night’s sleep that can only be described as B.A.D. Looking forward to some good strong coffee and another fun day in the car with loved ones. Also to the new backsplash in kitchen installed while we’ve been away. Great expectations. #Today

    This time last week I was in the grips of a horrible depression, brought on by the events of my knee surgery.

    I felt overwhelmed.

    Then, on Sunday, as I spoke to my girlfriend, I realized that the problem was that I wasn’t being proactive with my mental health. I knew what I needed to do. I just wasn’t doing it.

    So, on Monday, I took control back from my depression. I started using the tools that I had learned before. Now I’m in a much better place.

    Be proactive in your mental health journey.

    #Today was a pretty good day in spite of having my credit card hacked and someone trying to drain cash out of my bank account. The bank caught it, reversed all the charges, and shut down the card right away. Also found out someone had hacked into my Amazon account and had been making small but steady purchases over the last 6 months. Those are also being investigated. Stay diligent my friends!

    101F feels like 115F — and it’s only Monday in a small town in Texas just north of Houston; with more to come this week, forecasted even hotter.

    #Today, I did what my mind has been telling me was impossible for the last ten years. Woke up at 4a and made the one hour drive for the early morning meditation session with the monks at the zendo. Sometimes what first appears impossible can become possible after all. From my teacher (also the abbot) the notion that I couldn’t do it was “just a thought.” Then on the way out she asked me if I was coming tomorrow. She’s good.

    @junecasagrande And this after cars have become too complicated for the average person to fix. I’ve got a 2001 Jag XJS not running in my driveway with a fairly recent rebuilt engine and transmission. It’s becoming more economical to fix up one’s old cars than buy new. A scrap dealer will only give me $200 for it. For 10-15k I won’t have a new car but still a pretty good one - with no outrageous payments. This is where we’re heading, if not already there.
