Tankies get really mad when you affirm the reality of the Bosnian genocide because, to them, the Yugoslav wars are a classic example of Western imperialism to dismantle “socialism” in Europe.

To them, the war began with and is exclusive to the NATO war against Milosevic’s forces. The idea that the war began with Milosevic’s invasions of Slovenia, Croatia, and Bosnia, or that it involved the people of Yugoslavia fighting for their own goals and purposes, is utterly alien. The people of the former Yugoslavia aren’t really real to them; they’re fetish objects, background character’s in the tankie’s story.

@HeavenlyPossum Honestly, tankies are a very unoriginal lot, and their lazy "anti-imperalism" just boiler plates international relations to a black/white dichotomy with no sense of self- awareness, critical thinking, or irony. The world is basically a comic book to them it shows their crude "anti-imperialism" is basically shock jock anti-Western sentiments with the same level of analysis.

Then again what do you expect from a group of people whose politics originate out of supporting a mass murdering fuckhead.

I see a lot of depressed people say “oh I feel so bad, I’m such a burden on the people in my life.”

And, yeah, you are. You’re absolutely a burden on someone. I am a burden. We are all of us a burden. And that’s ok.

My kids are young and for a lot of my time with them they were helpless blobs. They have been so much work! They have made me tired, they have made me sick, they have made me worried, they have spent my money, they have punched me in the junk. Don’t let anyone sugarcoat how hard it is to be a parent.

And I would do anything for them. I would die for them. I love them more than anything and would do it all over again, gladly, a thousand times.

It’s ok to be a burden. Literally every human being is, at some point, a burden on someone else. All of us need help almost all of the time.

Because we take care of each other.

David Graeber once noted that we’re fragile biological beings who die without each other. It’s ok to be a burden. Be a burden. And take care of someone else when they’re a burdens. It’s the only thing we can do, really: take care of each other.

It’s ok.

@HeavenlyPossum I love this and needed it today. Honestly, I feel like a massive burden sometimes, but if it wasn't for my kid, I don't think I would keep going. They need and want me around, and I can't be that much of a burden. As you said, we all depend on people it is the nature of being a social species.

Unfortunately, we boil outsources down to very narrow spans of time to discuss our utility, which is both unfair to ourselves and unrealistic for the true nature of our utility to others.

For sure, I definitely have a hard time internalizing the utility, which is not important even though I would never apply that to my own child. We all deserve the world, and it means pushing back against those who have taken it from us and poison it every single damn day.

I was thinking to myself, “when will the effects of climate change get so bad that they provoke revolution” but then it occurred to me: they already did. Just in the wrong direction.

Syrians fled a civil war driven by the worst drought in a thousand years and Europe responded with a wave of reactionary fascism.

Central Americans fled rising temperatures that are killing agricultural workers and the U.S. responded with a wave of reactionary fascism.

Russia just happens to be in a war for control of some of the world’s best farmland.

Sudan is in the middle of a civil war and Niger just had its umpteenth coup.

Reactionaries are already at war with us over climate change. It’s only going to get worse as the world gets hotter.

@HeavenlyPossum Yeah, I'm always skeptical of people like that. Though I definitely run into self-described leftists that have some batshit ideas and knowledge of history. It does make me wonder what cesspits of the internet they are coming from where these ideas were fostered or encountered.

Though I'm skeptical of a lot of online "leftists" in general. Places like Reddit and Revleft really cemented that skepticism for me.
