A new project, and I'm very happy so far. I got an oak bourbon cask at a great discount, cut it in half, checked that the bottom half is still water tight, rinsed it out (still faint, lovely aroma of oaked bourbon) and there you go! The lily is a tropical Nymphae variety called Moonbeam. hence the indoor setting.
If you were hoping for sunshine on #PhotoMonday, you'll have to wait a little longer. Until then, perhaps this pond rose Nymphaea 'Pink Beauty' can brighten up the dull and wet day a bit ☀️
Last year I bought half a wine barrel and filled it with water. I always wanted a "pond" on my terrace. So this became my pond. I added some water plants to it and waited. Not much happened.
But this year the water plants started growing. Especially the waterlily started growing and growing.
And yesterday, out of nowhere, this waterlily came to light - as to say: "Here I am, you beautiful world, here I am".
On the first two photos, it was sunny and the waterlily was open, beautifully presenting itself to the world. It had rained a bit so that the center of the lily had some raindrops.
On the last photo, the sun was already gone and it had started to rain. The waterlily then closed itself, preparing to go to sleep.
Oh, btw, what you can't see is that the "pond" is full of life: snails, small things that can't yet be identified.
Also, the bees who help themselves at the cornflowers also help themselves at the pond with water. Especially wasps need a lot of water and they all come around and drink water at the pond.
As a side note, the waterlily just appeared. I didn't see any sign for it until it was just there. And when you look at it, you'd be excused to think it is artificial but it really is not. See for yourself. #Flower#lily#Waterlily
