(Oh, wait, that was me #MyBad 😉)

A little Walmart Greeter humour.
BTW, one of our greeters is an ex-serviceman.
He and I exchange jokes like this whenever I see him (quietly between just us, I don't want him fired)

I know it was necessary, but #Walmart in #Bedford has closed ALL overnight parking in the lot. No camping.
Forever, Walmart was tolerant of RV Campers spending a night, and perhaps shopping while there. They have huge parking lots, it's no sweat for them.

BUT, with this homelessness, there were trailers, campers, trucks, some towed in, dragged in & setup like camp sites, garbage & unsightliness. We are not unique. I suspect other Walmarts have done the same.

What about your Walmart?

Prediction: Gen Z will take their expensive educations and run to countries who want their skills. No reason to stay in a country where the deck is stacked in favor of the old. No reason for the Zs to pay back student loans and pay taxes to keep their parents and grandparents lavishly retired in houses that #genz can't afford. Nobody is staying around to inherit a storage space full of precious #boomer plastic crap from #walmart. We have left no legacy of worth. #studentloans #academicmastodon

I spent a ton of time in Puerto Rico.
Back in the day #TBT , they had a base there, known as Roosevelt Roads (Rosy Roads) and we docked there for maintenance between exercises.

I traveled around via this port, even renting a van-bus to provide tours for other members of the ship's company.

Article on $9 billion in investments #Walmart is making to stores. Most comments in the social media are about increasing pay and training for workers and getting rid of self-checkout.

One wonders if anyone at Walmart monitors those comments.

I am guessing, though, that they’ve already done the numbers and found it’s better for them to pay as little as possible and have customers do the checkout. Negative feelings towards the company may not count for much.

So much for getting the new Covid booster shot from Walmart today.

Walmart is supposed to be part of the Bridge Access Program where people with no insurance can get the shot for free. But they had clue it even existed and couldn't figure out a way to enter billing information so that the wife and I could get it for free. We weren't going to pay $155 per shot either.

More than 5% of developed land in the United States is dedicated to parking lots.
A study attempted to determine what would happen if #Walmart covered all 3,571 of its Super locations’ parking lots with #solarpanels, the solar power generation would be 11.1GW. That’s about the same as twelve large coal-fired #powerplants, enough electricity to provide power to 8.325 million homes. https://jalopnik.com/if-cities-are-going-to-be-packed-with-parking-lots-the-1850880420

Both modes are very useful for organizing one's thoughts, and indeed, they complement each other:

Now, Amazon is turning the screws. A new report from the @ilsr details the 45% #AmazonTax that every merchant pays to reach you:

https://ilsr.org/AmazonMonopolyTollbooth-2023/

That 45% tax is passed on to you - whether or not you shop at Amazon. Amazon's secretive #MostFavoredNation terms mean that if a seller raises their price on Amazon, they have to raise it everywhere else, which means you're paying more at #WalMart and #Target because of Amazon's policies.

Fucking new feature of our team meetings is a required Round Robin of “I’m excited about…” portion at the end, to bookend the “Who has an Uplift to share!?!” at the start. True to my nature, I didn’t offer an uplift and advised that, “I’m not excited about anything”. That returned an uneasy silence from all… fuck ‘em. I barely get through the day, and excitement is something I avoid.

"Walmart surprises with industry-leading change to wages"

Walmart's surprise is that it is lowering its starting wage by $1 this year.

A 2020 US Government Accountability Office study of data from six states found Walmart was a top employer of Medicaid [healthcare subsidies] enrollees and a top employer of SNAP [food subsidies] recipients.

Walmart's business model relies on corporate welfare while its employees work full time and struggle to pay for food and healthcare.

Employees need to surprise Walmart with a union ASAP.

Climate change is an immediate threat to the majority of the world's population.

We need a local, regional, state, national, and international "moon shot" type of concentration of effort using available resources while developing and advancing new science and technologies to counteract the damage humans have caused.

Without this type of all-out, universal cooperation, human civilization, and perhaps humanity itself, are in imminent danger of extinction.
