Biden's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, often touted as his signature climate achievement, not only falls short but also puts Black communities back in the targets of developers and highway building. Roughly half of the projects implemented so far has been allocated to highway expansion.
"Nationwide, the highway investment will practically wipe out any positive climate benefits from other spending priorities. The simple result, the report found, is that the U.S. will generate more emissions from transportation, already its largest source of planet-heating gases, than if the bill hadn’t ever passed. By 2040, the pollution created from these projects will be equivalent to running 48 coal-fired power plants a year.
The spending so far has created a 'climate time bomb' that will also perpetuate the displacement of Black communities, the report concluded."
Simple goal: Bike & gear accommodating my disabilities.
Cannot safely drive & busses suck here.
Budget is just one year of bus passes.
Saving on bus pass & Ubers for gaps, I'll have less #MutualAid need.
It's 95/month for bad bus system. + Ubers for places busses run rarely or just don't run. For just the cost of a year's bus passes, I can get a bike AND full gear that accommodates my safety & disability. https://throne.com/revcasey/collections/revs-mobility
Tuesday night was a really great night in my career when I won a significant award at an event in Seattle in a room with 800 people. It felt wonderful, and I captured a bit of it here: http://bikestylespokane.com/2024/03/17/a-thrilling-night/.
I'm fine with the soft, whirring spaceship sounds that some EVs emit as a safety feature to alert people that they're moving. The new Dodge Charger EV comes with a deafening 126 dB roar, which is just plain obnoxious.
swept Multnomah to Oleson and back, Terwilliger OHSU to Taylor's Ferry (PBOT needs to do some heavy lifting farther south here & sidewalks too), sidewalks on bridge over the freeway, both sides of Barbur from 3rd to 19th (ODOT come get your broken asphalt bits, and sweep your sidewalks?), Barbur NB from 24th to Spring Garden -> 19th, Bertha, yesterday Vermont past the schools, Capitol Hwy Terwilliger to the bridge across Multnomah #pdxBikes#BikeLaneSweeper#Portland#transportation@bikeloudpdx
Early works construction is now underway for the project of building a brand new, expanded, and modern #FerryTerminal in downtown #VictoriaBC for international cross-border ferry routes to the #UnitedStates.
Belleville Terminal, is in Victoria Inner Harbour, NW of the BC Legislature. The current phase of work involves building temporary terminal building and wharf facilities, which is expected to reach completion in Fall 2024.
What’s Missing From #Railroad Safety Data? Dead Workers and Severed Limbs.
Thanks to #government loopholes, rail companies haven’t been scrutinized by the Federal Railroad Administration for scores of alleged #worker injuries and at least two deaths.

The Alaska Airlines plane that lost a door panel midflight had been scheduled for maintenance that same day to address a potential problem.
The airline chose to keep the plane, a Boeing 737 Max 9, in service for a day after its engineers called for a rigorous maintenance check. #AlaskaAirlines#Airlines#transportation#NTSB#FAA#Boeing
When I tell people that >20% of the population everywhere cannot drive, they always quibble about including children in that calculation. I think it says a lot about our car brained society that it's normal to think minors shouldn't have independent mobility.
A political leader should take public transit, send their kids to public school, use the same healthcare as the rest of us. At the very least they should have done so regularly before taking office. We don't need to be ruled by aristocrats. You aren't qualified to run the city if you use your money to opt out of living in it.
A few years back, I was in Memphis visiting family. I always try to use the bus system when I am there (my family think I am nuts, but whatever). Busses break down, the air conditioning falters, and often capacity is standing room only. The transit system obviously needs more budget.
Then, I'm watching the news, and the fucking governor says that Uber and Lyft are providing transit very well and could substitute for a transit system. !!!????
When was the last time you saw an Uber or Lyft vehicle with a wheelchair ramp and/or lift? If that motherfucker rode the bus, he'd realize that the transit system accommodates EVERYONE at a low cost. Unless and until Uber and Lyft rides cost $2 and require all vehicles to accommodate wheelchairs, that Tennessee governor can just fuck right off.
And by the way, I just returned from Las Vegas, where I took multiple bus trips where 2-3 wheelchair riders were on the bus at the same time. Wheelchair riders are not outliers; they are common and part of the community.
Dudes, HALF of the #ClimateChange / #GlobalWarming problem is #transportation. #EVs are not going to solve that when they need as much energy as a suburban house's heating/cooling load to charge the battery. If there's only one lever that moves when you pull on it, however little it moves, pull that one! Ride your bike.
