The exit from Doai Station, Japan's so-called "number 1 mole station", consists of 462 steps which take 10 minutes to climb. Once you arrive at the top, there’s a sign reading お疲れ様 (otsukare-sama, “good job” – or, maybe in this context, “you made it”).
I've been saying this for some time now. Never thought I'd see a US department say the same — but the NYC Department of transportation just did! And it's not the first time I've seen them post some really good stuff about bikes. This gives me hope.
The new account timeline feels so empty, so pardon me while I furnish it with this @Vox infographic of how the US had somewhat decent passenger rail and got rid of most of it. #Trains#Transportation#CarCentrism
Baltimore, Md., bridge update: Rescuers are still searching for six construction workers, presumed dead by their employer, who were working on the bridge at the time of the collapse.

Tokyo’s subway system is a marvel that transports millions every day. Yet, despite its busy-ness, there are a few stations that barely anyone uses. Here’s a rundown of Tokyo’s five least-used stations and how – and why – they keep operating.
people keep literally saying exactly how to transform your city urgently and without a lot of money but mayors and traffic Engineers just roll up the windows and stare straight ahead at a red light. #ClimateAction#Transportation#InducedDemand#TacticalUrbanism#JFDI
I am particularly irritated at a couple bigger-account "urbanists"/transpo people for not using alt text.
In addition to disregarding needs of disabled people here, this tells us that you aren't willing to listen to/learn the norms & values of the community you're in; & that you do not consider routinely regarding disabled people's needs as your responsibility.
Both of which are very shitty given the line of work you're in.
Biden's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, often touted as his signature climate achievement, not only falls short but also puts Black communities back in the targets of developers and highway building. Roughly half of the projects implemented so far has been allocated to highway expansion.
"Nationwide, the highway investment will practically wipe out any positive climate benefits from other spending priorities. The simple result, the report found, is that the U.S. will generate more emissions from transportation, already its largest source of planet-heating gases, than if the bill hadn’t ever passed. By 2040, the pollution created from these projects will be equivalent to running 48 coal-fired power plants a year.
The spending so far has created a 'climate time bomb' that will also perpetuate the displacement of Black communities, the report concluded."
