You know something's screwed up when an M1 Abrams main battle tank (that generally needs supporting infantry to deal with visibility issues) has better forward visibility than many American street legal trucks.
Register for the last session in CSCRS’s final Research to Practice Bytes series examining COVID street transformations w/presenter @DrTCombs (hey that's me)
When: May 31, 2:30-3pm (EDT)
Where: https://unc.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_X2B7zBAeTRuNw8V2yZUlIA#/registration
Who: me, you, all our #SafeSystem friends
Why: because #COVID19 changed everything, including how we use, think about, and plan for streets. And also because it's the last #webinar for this amazing organization.
Topic: Effectiveness of RRFBs at marked crosswalks.
Q: What about snow/ice conditions where it takes longer to stop? What does WSDOT have for that?
My A: WSDOT has state law that tells you to drive for conditions.
Room: Laughter.
Me [outside voice]: It may be a laugh to you, not to me when you're bearing down on me. I'm being a killjoy to ask you not to kill someone's joy. #SafetyOverSpeed#RoadSafety#WordsMatter#transportation#walking

There are electric scooters and bicycles available to ride all over Kitchener. Yesterday I looked into them only to discover they cost as much as taking an Uber. What is the point? I can’t afford that. Lots of people can’t afford that. And besides, the helmets might be infested with head lice, and no one wants that. @waterlooregion#scooter#transportation#Kitchener
The @losangelestimes let me pen a few words arguing that people’s health and mobility should take precedence over goods movement in the quest for cleaner air in #California:
There is not a #scarcity of funds for #transportation in the US. We spend tens of billions every year on #road construction and maintenance. That's a policy choice.
We could choose instead to pay for other things, like robust #PublicTransit & comprehensive supports for #walking and #bicycling.
Don't let anyone tell you there's not enough $. We have gobs of $. We just spend it to subsidize the least economically rational form of transportation.
I try to avoid German news for my sanity. but I just learned that the 49 EUR ticket that took more than a year to introduce and just started could soon rise in price again. Germany is a clown country.
Hopefully not.
That would be extremely unfair.
Instead, subsidies for public transport should rise and all taxes on #FfossilFuels should be earmarked for #transportation infrastructure investments, #renewable-energy infrastructure getting twice as much from the taxes.
