what does it look like to work in dysfunctional IT? How about retrocomputing or video games?
also offering up some hot takes on programming despite discovering decades ago that being a programmer is best left to others.
liberal user of CWs; trying to atone for over a decade of Twitter ruin.
The country flags above show which countries in the world I've been to.
NO LONGER yakkoj on Twitter.

when you're expecting UPS, the legendary Team Brown who delivers to "BSMT GARBAGECAN" or "SIDE SHRUB" instead of to you, every sound sounds like UPS truck
How did Emacs change my life?
It caused me to take vi seriously. This was when I was using joe and thought I could just compile my preferred editor everywhere instead of using vi ;o)
Until personal labor doesn't cost money, Busted Office Chair will have to do.
Some of us don't have that "friend" with the pickup truck, savvy
wait... is there a leap second in addition to a leap day this year?
Wow, Apple IIc LCD display got a modernized COLOR version!
Too bad the stretched aspect ratio makes 80 columns difficult to read, but in other modes, it looks really good for what it is!
"Well since some [R-word] genius decided ..."
I have a permanent mapping of the R-word to "stupid" now that I know the value of not further marginalizing already marginalized people via slang.
It also has much to do with self-awareness. Just cause I'd always done something that's pointed out to me as wrong, and been OK with it because I wasn't aware what I was really doing doesn't mean I should not change.
>article refers to lithium ion batteries as "lion battery tech".
So that's what powers the lion: a lion battery!
Rrrrgh... whoever thought replacing syslog with journalctl has never been an actual sysadmin that had to do it as a job.
It's the syslog tool equivalent to using mashed potatoes to build a bookshelf.
>VMs shit themselves because /var became read-only on the host.
>host systemd captured NOTHING that would tell me what happened.
Fuck it. ext4 journal had a glitch as far as syslog (which I had to manually enable; had I not done that beforehand, I'd have NO clue) could tell me.
Wow... some of flatpak cache can't even tell time and it scribbles its files out with ctime=0 (so all the time info is now 1969-12-31)
>YouTuber gets to play with old IBM POWER systems
Yeah but now I refreshed the page and the video is GONE
Random term I absolutely did NOT need to know more about:
Pig Butchering (it's a crypto scam).
It's a combination of the worst catfishing you can imagine and an investment scam involving cryptocurrency and fake investment apps. It gets its name because of the way they fatten the mark up and then "butcher" them by taking all their money they put in.
OK, I'm probably wrong about this, but this is my experience.
I can't use flatpak software in Linux and also be notified of any flatpak updates without using GNOME.
So if my flatpaks are months out of date, there's nothing I can do. I have to remember to MANUALLY update them (no I won't use GNOME because I can't make it work like a desktop environment anymore. I might also be wrong about this, but I want the dialog buttons where they've been since 1990.)
It's also why "rape culture" is still a thing and rightfully why women don't trust men.
"Real men" can actually control themselves and don't treat others like this.
He's "educating your son" with all the wrong things.
PowerBooks G3 have H.R.Giger vibes.
Apple's up to its bullshit again
It AUTOMATICALLY re-enabled wi-fi that I specifically turned OFF just because I updated macOS.
iCloud also double-crossed me by giving the Mac the details to login to the wi-fi, and did this without my consent or knowledge.
I can't find any knobs to twiddle to get this to stop happening.
man I'm quickly losing patience with the mechanical keyboard people
There seems to be a lot of minute details that I didn't even know I was supposed to care about, e.g. I had no idea the LED placement on backlit keyboards mattered.
Maybe the thing I'm losing patience with is what I'm "expected" to do, and I should just cut that out because no one's paying me to perform to a given set of expectations here.
"Just choose a suitable Keychron and buy that"
Amazon did NOT install a locker at that new Whole Foods at 119th/Metcalf
They have an "Amazon Counter" and it requires me to shudder talk to someone to get my package. ;o)
So I guess Burlington Amazon Locker it stays.
(I'd probably choose a Counter over those dopey lockers that REQUIRE the app, though.)
Just bought a greaseweazel
Because I can't have too MANY options to image a disk (and greaseweazel works in Linux, unlike Applesauce! I will hastily add that Applesauce is excellent and practically the main reason I keep a Mac running.)
