Ventura County collecting damage reports for submission for disaster recovery efforts. Per officials:
REPORT SURF/TIDAL FLOODING DAMAGE
Ventura County Emergency Services, in coordination with the City of Ventura and Oxnard, are gathering information from residents who have experienced damage to their homes and vehicles as a result of the December 28 high surf event. This information will be used to assist local authorities in accurately determining the extent of damages from this event. All information submitted will be kept confidential.
"Rescue crews from throughout the Central Coast responded to the Oceano Dunes in San Luis Obispo County to help evacuate campers during strong waves and high water levels on Thursday... (RVs) and travel trailers were being overcome by crashing waves... vehicle carrying a family of five required a rescue operation as they attempted to cross a creek to leave the camping area. The vehicle was then swept into the waves... A rescue swimmer pulled four adults and one child out of the vehicle to safety. North Shore (Hawaii) surf is up. VERY UP. -- waves of up to 30 feet (!).
"Surf of 10 to 15 feet building to 25 to 30 feet tonight through Wednesday along north facing shores. Surf of 8 to 12 feet building to 15 to 25 feet tonight through Wednesday along west facing shores."
