“Breaker” — Waves generated by a big Pacific Ocean storm break near the California coastline.
It is quite an experience to get up close and personal with huge storm surf like this — though having a very long lens and finding the right shooting location helps makes it safe. We headed to the coast south of San Francisco during California’s bout of giant waves between Christmas and New Year’s Day. At this location a peninsula juts out into the ocean between a beach and a bay. Be careful, gang. High Surf Advisory for all west facing shores of Hawaii Island, from Upolu Point in North Kohala to South Point in Ka`u through Thursday.
Expect strong breaking waves, shore break, and rip currents making swimming difficult and dangerous. #hiwx#hawaii#surf
Moderator's best album so far is his most recent one, the impeccably titled and perfectly atmospheric Forbidden Acts of Vaudeville. A late 2023 release and instant top tier album of the year, my fav tracks include Set My Soul On Fire & Just Before Dawn, but this is a play from the top album
Reposting this from @Bigsurkate -- photo by Tim Huntington of McWay Falls and the waves in Big Sur over the holidays. The tiny stream of water to the left on the cliffs is 80 feet tall. #waves#CAwx#surf#BigSur
Evacuation Warning in Ventura County was lifted earlier today (for the PCH).
At 2:50PM on 12/30/2023, an EVACUATION WARNING has been lifted for residences bordering Pacific Coast Highway, from Seacliff Avenue South to Emma Wood Group Camp.
Looks like the largest waves on Thursday in Santa Barbara County were off Vandenberg Air Force Base. Satellite imaging showing the breaking waves there (!!). #waves#surf#California
