#DoctorWho has become one of my all-time favorite #TVSeries.
I can't believe I started watching this so late.
The reboot first appeared in 2005 so that's like 18 years ago. #scifi#sciencefiction
I can't believe I slept on #TheOrville as long as I did. I guess I was put off by the fact that MacFarlane is the #FamilyGuy guy. A Star Trek parody rooted in that style of humor did not appeal.
Imagine my surprise to learn that it's not a Star Trek parody. And it's not Family Guy-esque. At all.
It's just... well, it's not Start Trek. But it's like getting to watch a Star Trek unburdened by canon. MacFarlane has crafted a very fine love letter to Roddenberry here. #SciFi#ScienceFiction
@squigley "unburdened by canon" is a great way to explain it! I know soooooo many trek fans who lose their gagh because some Klingon clearly had different ridges 20 years earlier. This is ridiculous, of course. It's a story. And The Orville sidesteps this entirely, it truly is "unburdened by canon" :-D
I'm not sure if you know but Artstation has a lot of concept art for modern scifi films. Here's some of that art for Dune, since I know many are excited about the second film coming out later this year....
For those of you who don't know DreamForge, we are in indie publication; owners, editors, first line readers - all volunteers. I have a lot to do today, so naturally I’m taking to social media with the purpose of discussing something ridiculous: science fiction’s obsession with putting scantily clad (or even nekkid!!) women in glass containers. 1/6
If you follow me, you may be interested in following the Patreon of The Strange Case of Starship Iris. That's the science fiction podcast in which I play Brian Jeeter. From the official description:
"In 2189, Earth narrowly won a war against extraterrestrials, but at a tremendous price. Two years later, in a distant patch of space, a mysterious explosion kills nearly the entire crew of the science vessel Starship Iris. The only survivor is Violet Liu, an intrepid, sarcastic, terrified biologist.
[...] The Strange Case of Starship Iris is a show about outer space, survival, espionage, resistance, identity, friendship, found family, romance, and secrets. (Also, there’s jokes.)"
I love working on this show, and we're going to start recording season 3 soon! I'm so excited! Oh and I occasionally get to do some singing on it. :D
If you become a patron, you get access to writings about the universe of Starship Iris that don't fit into the show, or that give extra background about the characters, plus interviews with various cast and crew. Check it out! :D
George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four is published #OTD in 1949 by Secker & Warburg as Orwell's ninth and final book completed in his lifetime.
Nineteen Eighty-Four has become a classic literary example of political and dystopian fiction. It also popularised the term "Orwellian" as an adjective, with many terms used in the novel entering common usage. via @wikipedia
Why in the end did I decide to re-read Heinlein's Time Enough for Love? And why did it take me more than 2000 words and still not quite say everything I could about it? My review at File 770 is now live https://file770.com/paul-weimer-reviews-time-enough-for-love/
The sea has risen and those that can have left the former United Kingdom. Those that can't need food, water and shelter. But Joy isn’t worried – you can get anything same day delivery these days.

A new book by Leckie is always a joy to read. She returns to (a new part of) the universe of Ancillary Justice for a space opera with lots of action that's also an exploration of family, and identity, and gender. "I'm a princex in disguise!"
Started it yesterday, finished today. Forgot to eat.
