Slightly earlier finish today so time for #TonightsListening with the sublime 'Dummy' by Portishead.
Reminds me of sinking too many 50 pence pieces in the jukebox of the student union to listen to 'Sour Times', 'It Could Be Sweet' and 'Glory Box' on repeat...
“Dummy” was a groundbreaking album back in the day and it’s easy to see why. I keep coming back to it, 30 years after release.
Beth Gibbons’ voice, the songs that all hit a perfect balance between despair and hope, the otherworldly, trippy, hypnotic beats … it’s perfect.
Also, “Roads” was the first song from the album that I’ve ever listened to (you know, in that scene in Tank Girl), and it still sends shivers down my spine. Every time.

We're all looking at a different picture
Through this new frame of mind
A thousand flowers could bloom
Move over and give us some room, yeah >
@alternativenation a friend of mine introduced me to #Portishead when they were still active, and it was very different to music either of us usually listened to at that time. I still really like them. https://youtu.be/8T0cRt8efsQ
I still associate the song Wandering Star with the science fiction show Babylon 5 😄
My mind just made a connection there somehow and now I'm stuck with it.
