“I must not reply. Bad takes are the mind-killer. Bad takes are the little death that brings total obliteration. I will scroll past the take. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. When the take has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”
Great Albums, 1970s, No. 7: #JoniMitchell – #Blue (1971). Some days, Blue’s heavy confessions, starkly presented on an ice-cold piano, are too much to take. I mean, when even the Xmas tune has lines like, “I’m selfish and sad,” things are pretty dark in Joniland. For those days, Court & Spark, with its funnier takes on theft and misery, is the one. That being said, Blue is so incisive that on the days you need it, it’s about ALL you need. #GreatAlbums1970s, #Album, #Vinyl, #Pop#GreatPopAlbums
Fin de la Luz -- electronic pop with some reggaeton rhythm. Gets me bopping on this fine Friday.
If you make it through a listen I'd appreciate any advice, especially on the vocal mixing and drum patterns / mixing: still learning how to showcase @Caitria vocals + keep the drums from being obnoxious. I'd still like to do another pass on this song before calling it done.
You probably remember song, but did you really watch the incredible 1 shot vid? Fantastic choreography w/ real expression. So many music videos w/ massive budgets end up being pretty generic & forgettable. This was shot with skill & talent not just bludgeoned with budget.
Also bonus points for making the acid wash jeans look cool. Look back on stuff w/ me wearing acid wash jeans.. pretty cringe tbh!
The The in 1983, this music vid recently got a remaster HD (1080p). A beautiful lilting pop synth track from the new wave era. It's off their debut album Soul Mining which went fairly unnoticed until after when albums like Infected, Dusk etc got more attention. The background images are so obviously a British seaside town, but I don't recognise precisely which one that is.
Music videos were often so basic mid 80s. But I loved the animation in this video. You only got to see it a few times if you caught it on TV, unless were lucky & had an early VCR running before track started etc
A time when cassettes & making mixtapes for people (often off records) was a big deal. Access to music was so different. I had this on tape because I was given it by a GF in a mixtape.
One of my favourite music videos. From the same period (probably 86 at a guess). Had animation from Aardman studios of claymation Creature Comforts fame & later Wallace & Gromit & many other things.
Apparently Bowie's least favourite single from a musical standpoint. But it's great, one of the earliest chart records I purchased. It feels exactly like the early 80s.
Bowie was interested in the world, his interviews are great, he cared about many topics. As @palmoildetectives rightly points out the musicvid has a lot to say about #indigenous rights in #Australia
I think this might be the very first 7" single I bought. 1981? At this age I loved musketeers, native americans, pirates & Adam Ant. I absolutely would have dressed like this if I could, I remember looking through shops trying to figure out how. 😂🤣
My vibe after using #Twitter this morning very briefly, just for something specific. Regardless you still get bombarded with relentless & endless negative worst takes on every event.
Amongst all the many remarkable things about icon & pioneer Grace Jones, one snippet is that Dolph Lundgren had a Master's in Chemical Engineering and a Fullbright Scholarship to MIT - yet he gave it up to hang out with Grace Jones as her bodyguard & lover. No Grace Jones, no Ivan Drago.
