Windows on ARM 24H2 boots to installer without a problem on the Orange Pi 5 Plus.

First catch, it can't see the EMMC.

Second catch, I have the EMMC because I wanted to see what happened with an eGPU dock connected through the x4 NVME slot.

I expect finding a Win driver for whatever device Windows can't see that prevents it from seeing the EMMC storage is going to be next to impossible.

Looks like I might just have to cut the eGPU loose in the interest of testing Windows.

I find it funny that #OrangePi is collaborating with #Manjaro to make a #gaming handheld called #OrangePiNeo and it's not #ARM but just yet another #AMD handheld like the rest of the fleet? Isn't Orange Pi a popular alternative to #RaspberryPi that sells ARM-based SBCs?

Power to them I guess but I definitely would love to see more ARM-based #Linux gaming handhelds (not #Android, we have a ton of those already) available, no matter how "not ready" ARM + Linux gaming is. Software support could always be improved and worked on later down the road once the hardware is available to target.

In fact, the #kubernetes operator is how you’re seeing this post! I’m running a #k3s cluster at home on two #OrangePi Pluses using the operator for ingress. I’m on T-Mobile home internet and it works great since I can’t forward ports.

What's the cheapest little home #videoGame console you can buy off aliexpress that would connect to #retroAchievements? I'd like to buy a few and set them up for my friends and family as presents. Install a frontend like #batocera, load it up with roms. Probably a #raspberrypi but maybe there's some other #SBC that'd do the job?

It seems to me that many #RetroHandhelds use the #RK3566 chip. So does the #OrangePi 3B. There's a build of #Batocera for it. It's got gigabit LAN, Wifi 5 and Bluetooth 5. I bet that would play up to PS1, and handle #retroAchievements just fine.

Anyone have any experience with OrangePi single-board computers?

I'm not looking for a direct RaspPi replacement, just a small computer that runs off 5v. Curious if they're any good.

Just saw #Manjaro and #OrangePi are teaming up to release the OrangePi Neo a Linux powered handheld. I can't wait to get more info, we need more Linux first handheld options. I'm still hoping @system76 @starlabs_computers @tuxedocomputers eventually offer their own handhelds.

Got my Orange Pi 5 Plus in today. Working on getting Pimox up and running on it. https://github.com/pimox/pimox7

So far no dice. I think pimox doesn't like that I'm running Armbian Bookworm Edge. Not sure if Bookworm Legacy will get me there or if I need to roll all the way back to Bullseye.

Haven't quite worked out exactly what these will go into service doing. Probably use them as a tiny Kubernetes cluster while I learn Kubernetes. Then maybe part of a secondary low power backup home network for when power goes down?

My tests show these batteries get right around 24 hours uptime.

I’m upgrading my garage ethernet network so maybe some down time on the solarcene.community #solarinstance. Pleased with myself as instead of jumping to am&zon I went on #eBay and got a 8 port network switch #secondhand . It was missing the power adapter which is fine as I’ll be rigging it anyway to run off 5V (it’s a TP SG108 and I’ve already got the 5 port version which works fine off 5V with a little modification).

Means I can finally put in place my plans to automate the #mastodon instance

Progress! (Apologies for solarcene popping offline a few times)

I found a step down power supply which I’m now using to power the 8 port switch, it’s mounted to a frame of hexagons. The #orangepi on the right runs solarcene.community. The laptop isn’t on #solar right now and does other projects

Okay, script written. Let's see if we can build the backup server for my home office...

Okay, all the versions of Debian are exhibiting the same problem. Now - is this a hardware issue? Or is it a software/firmware config issue? Or is it a power supply issue?

Let's eliminate some kinda #debian issue as the cause by trying #ubuntu

Looks at the #OrangePi software downloads page suspiciously

Latest attempt to evict Google:

I love an android app called Autosync. I have used the one for Google Drive for some time now. I created Drive folders for my custom phone sounds (alarms, notifications, ring tones), my ebook collection that I read with Moon+Reader, and a misc folder of stuff I like to have on my phone. The point of this being both that if I get a new phone, I just have to install Autosync and set up the folders and all my stuff gets synced with the new phone or device, and, in the case of Ebooks, I copy new books into my Google Drive in the appropriate folder and it syncs automatically to my phone.. and my Onyx reader.

These all depend on a cloud service. Google, or there is one for Dropbox or others.

Today I took an #OrangePi, installed debian, set up #Tailscale, and Samba, and using the universal Autosync, I can sync from my own server over my private Tailscale VPN.

Now to build the server to house the rest of it, and contemplate the document sharing... Hmmmm. 🙂

Why is it that you can install any version of or on basically any chip, but you can't install on just any phone or

Everybody always says to stick to because of "support" meaning there are OS images for it

I gather that each has a unique set of modems and gpus for which a custom build of Android must be used, but Windows systems come in millions of configurations and they just load drivers on the fly

Returning my #OrangePi. Turns out there’s no extra modules for that kernel release so I can’t have NVMeoF and therefore, no OpenEBS. This is on top of not having cloud-init. That does it.
Just ordered another #RaspberryPi instead.

santisbon,

Oh and one more thing: #OrangePi downloads packages from Huawei instead of the official #Ubuntu repo. Get the #RaspberryPi if you want cloud native solutions, official #Linux images, wide selection of OSes, vast community support, and extensive documentation written with proper grammar.

I want to use a #RaspberryPI, which I have attached #arcade buttons to, as WASD on my PC.
What do I need to install on my PC to make that happen? I'm having trouble using the right search terms.
Does this change, if I am using on #OrangePI?

ohhhh, is this the solution? Install a thing on the PI, like retrograme? https://learn.adafruit.com/retro-gaming-with-raspberry-pi/configuring-retrogame

Haven't run much on the #OrangePi yet other than the stuff necessary to get a makeshift web server going, Lynx for plaintest browsing (if needed) and a not yet configured Homer dashboard.

Looking into maybe a note taking or bookmarking thing too maybe. What're you peeps #SelfHosting that's cool and lightweight these days?
