Here, alongside dedicated volunteers at the Malden Warming Center, we offer much more than just shelter during harsh winter months. We offer hope, connection, and a reminder that they are not alone☕️
🤝🏽 Being of service isn't just about what we do, but about the ripples of hope we set in motion.

Teraz potrzebują pomocy - zachęcam do wsparcia.
We're pleased to announce that Francesca @dannunzio is joining us this year as our Roy W. Howard Investigative Reporting Fellow.
Francesca has reported on topics ranging from deportations in the Dominican Republic, Christian nationalism, US-Mexico border colonias, right-wing sheriffs, to zoning and housing policy in #Texas. Her work has been published or syndicated in The Guardian US, The Dallas Morning News, Religion News Service ... (1/2)
Abbey is a human-centered design researcher working with organizations to conduct evaluative and generative design research. Her collaborative work informs design decisions on both tactical and strategic levels. She has over 17 years of experience working with large and small orgs in this capacity and focuses on making technology and big data easy to use, useful, and accessible for everyone.
Go into the new year looking fresh 😎 Pick up merch that supports open-source projects and non-profit organizations working to keep the internet free and open!
For a second year, @josephinelee returns as our McHam Investigative Reporting Fellow. She has previously worked as an educator and community organizer. Her reporting on labor, environment, politics, and #education has been featured on Salon, Daily Beast, Truthout, and other outlets. She was raised in and lives in #Houston.
We did it! Thanks to readers like you, we raised $13,631 during this year’s NewsMatch. Thank you for believing in the power of news for YOU, not for shareholders.
We have a lot planned for 2024, and, with your help, we’re just getting started.
I wish I understood the thinking behind organizations sending many increasingly frenetic emails in the days leading up to New Year's, begging for donations. I've unsubscribed from two orgs' lists in the past week, one for sending me three emails IN ONE DAY and one for sending five in five days including two on New Year's Eve. I emailed them both and told them why I was unsubscribing, too.
Aggressively annoying your supporters is a good way to alienate them. #spam#nonprofit
Looking back at 2023, the article I'm most proud of writing is my profile of Austin #drag queens. While this wasn't my article with the biggest impact this year, or one that's garnered any award nominations, it meant so much to me that the @TexasObserver supported the almost six months I spent getting to know members of this community and learning their stories. https://www.texasobserver.org/austin-drag-queens-defy-ban?utm_campaign=mastodon
One last thing ... there's just a few hours left in 2023, and the @TexasObserver could still use some help to meet our goals. If you haven't donated to us, now is a great time. It will keep us reporting and investigating in the new year. https://donate.texasobserver.org/b/5kA9EteqHerB5kkbII
One of our most generous supporters has been so overwhelmed with the response to our campaign that they decided to offer a special TRIPLE matching gift for today only!
They offered an additional $10,000 to our existing match fund. That means that all gifts, up to $20,000 in total, will triple in impact, but you have to make a gift by midnight TONIGHT to take advantage of this great opportunity.
As our Interim Executive Director Loren Lynch wrote, we're here because of YOU and your support. We've been covering causes that matter for 70 years, and we'll keep reporting with your help.
Only one day remains in 2023—which means time is running short for you to become one of the 100 people needed to help us meet our match challenge and continue the search for life beyond Earth with a year-end contribution!
Any donation made to the SETI Institute before midnight on December 31 will be doubled up to $10,000, so your support will go twice as far in helping answer one of the most profound questions of all time: are we alone?
This post has some links with further info on Mozilla finance. Personally, I do not agree with @mttaggart|s conclusions because I view that type of organization differently: no one needs to earn this much money in a non-profit. From a European perspective, the US often have very strange notions about what it means to be non-profit.
It's like when #Billionaires make up their own "#ArtGallery" or "#Museum" but since it's "appointment-only" it's rather their private collection and de-facto not accessible even if one is willing to pay for that...
