SGGQA 331: OnePlus 12 is Here, Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus, Apple AirDrop is NOT Secure, Net Neutrality Needs YOUR Support!
No longer promoting on Xitter, so every share is a HUGE help!
In light of Apple trying to steal the thunder from brands at CES, I feel it's worth reminding folks of the journey we've been on with Vision Pro, and tech journalists unfairly OVER HYPING Apple's AR plans at the expense of the entire AR/VR industry. https://somegadgetguy.com/b/3si
Over a decade of rumors and clickbait, telling people to wait for an Apple headset, and this is what we FINALLY arrive at...
The Apple Vision Pro, also known as the Apple Sunk Cost Fallacy. :blobfoxthinkgoogly:
Seriously though, I'm baffled that Apple is actually going ahead with a consumer release for it. VR is basically useless for productivity and Apple is abysmal with gaming. I don't get who or what the headset is for.
RayNeo Air 2 Review! https://youtu.be/_CsV-Vbzgis
Smaller, lighter, faster, and less expensive! These could be the XR glasses to beat?
But is RayNeo making TOO many compromises to hit the lower price?
I'm no fan of Meta/Facebook, but it is a little irritating listening to some of the Quest 3 reviews out there. That injection of a line like "Well, we KNOW the Quest 3 won't be as powerful or as sophisticated as the Apple Vision Pro!"
Sure. I guess. Vision Pro isn't out yet, but I get that tech journalists make more money hyping up Apple.
I just wish there was more categorizing on that point. Where a headset that isn't out yet, and will likely only sell around 100,000 units over 2024, and costs SEVEN TIMES MORE than the Quest 3.
Well, we would expect that headset to be a bit fancier right?
Maybe chilling the VR market to wait for Apple to catch up, is NOT the most responsible advice we could be giving consumers interested in VR?
I just tested SynthRider with MixedReality at home.
It's super nice because you can see your friends on the couch and it feels like you are doing a game at home, like doing some exercises.
Over eleven years ago, we got our first look at Google Glass. Since then, tech journalism has run rampant with rumors and leaks of a similar sleek headset coming from Apple.
A tech journalism hype machine, running almost completely independently from Apple's actual product announcements, ruthlessly telling consumers not to try actual products that made it to market.
Over a decade of overestimating Apple's capabilities, with literally nothing to show for it. Where do we go from here? Can we ever bring practical consumer AR to the masses?
Now with Vision Pro on the horizon, we see a chilling effect on Mixed Reality solutions, and the Hype Machine is spinning up again to promote the idea of sleek glasses from Apple.
"People are once again walking into public places wearing a video-recording face computer on their heads. Only this time, the faceputer is sold by Meta, not Google."

Tech journalists have been promising an Apple AR revolution for over ten years now, while downplaying the accomplishments of real AR and VR competitors. Apple contributed VERY little to this Hype Machine.
How did we get here?

Happy Labor Day! #SGGQA 314 - Huawei Mate 60 Pro Baffles Regulators, Lenovo Makes AR Glasses Cool, No XPERIA 5 for the USA, It's Just Time to Shut Down Twitter…
Trying not to take it personal that I THINK this person is calling me a "huckster", but this is a common sentiment I get from techies discussing "AR glasses".
We've been over-hyping the potential of augmented reality for over a decade now, and thanks to tech influencers and science fiction films, people seem to think Terminator style optical information systems are right around the corner.
They are NOT right around the corner.
It's a critical teachable moment, as AR has a WAYS to go...
