#SpatialComputing So far with the right gear it's been a real game changer for me. tethered to power and with good headgear I can do long work sessions. I can also manipulate my work environment in ways that I could only dream of previously. I think the VR manufacturers are really missing the mark by making these units gaming centric. For my money productivity VR is a hugely undeserved market. There are however plans for productivity focused hardware on the horizon
#SpatialComputing Immersed works quite well. It requires you to install a desktop client and then streams your screens. There is zero lag on my Wifi network. You can also block out your room and work in a virtual environment which helps with focus. I can also manipulate displays to cover an entire wall or bring them close in a curved format. You can also pass through a small section fo your environment so you can see your keyboard and desk.
#SpatialComputing Next we need to mirror the computer desktop to VR. For that I opted for an app called immersed. There is a free version that allows two lower resolution displays but I opted for pro at $5.00 a month which gives me five virtual screens at a max of 3840 X 2160. FYI you may also be limited by your GPU when trying to render five high res displays. I've only ever done three, and usually opt for one max res and one at 1366 X 768.
#SpatialComputing Let's start with the first accessories. If you're going to do something like this you absolutely need a third party aftermarket head strap.The one that comes with the unit is downright painful, ditch it immediately. Next grab a good power supply, something 30W or more and a good size USB-C to USB-C cable. Your productivity apps will draw mucho power, but since you'll be stationary, being tethered to power isn't a big deal breaker. I also bought an optional charging dock
#SpacialComputing. Ok guys time to report in on my VR experiments. So Apples Vision Pro really peaked my interest in the concept of spatial computing. In my mind this is productivity based VR. Unfortunately I didn't want to sell and organ to obtain a Vision Pro so I opted for a Meta Quest 3 (formerly Oculus) for about a fifth of the price at $649.00 CAD. By the time I'm done with accessories we're closing in at about 1K CAD
#SpatialComputing. I like to use good but old Lenovo laptops as I drag them into data centers and customer sites, so if it breaks no biggy. My laptop is my main at home computer for work. The current spec is a core i5-6200 with 8GB of ram and Win11. The goal was to instead of up upgrading the display (which is limited), work in VR with very large virtual screens. I would also need to do this for very long stretches of time during extended work sessions.

The sheer amount of technology that has to work flawlessly for this to be possible is mindblowing 🤯
It is still very weird to ship an app that I've only run on a device for a handful of hours back in August.
At least it’s basically just 2D (hidden bananas aside) - my hat is off to anybody that's shipped a full 3D app today, that's much harder to pull off developing in the simulator.
And congratulations to the Apple people who have been working on this stuff for literally years!

#Apple’s #VisionPro is simultaneously amazing and absurd. It’s perhaps the most technologically sophisticated consumer device ever created, with three displays, numerous cameras, sensors, and a whole new user interface paradigm.
