Apple was never going to "save" VR.
We've spent the last decade giving Apple an unlimited runway of speculation and hype to bring a face computer to market.
Instead of doing a better job earnestly and fairly covering the tech along the way, properly educating consumers on what these things can do, now even Vision Pro can't live up to the media's imagined narrative of Apple.
Apple did nothing to earn a DECADE of media support for XR products, but think of all the projects that were criticized for not living up to some kind of imaginary Sci-Fi standard.
"Wait for gen 2 or gen 3 instead!"
Techies expect everyone else to lift off like a helicopter, but Apple gets UNLIMITED runway...
In this extended version, we added #AR feedback to the gaze-enabled #activityrecognition so that users get helpful assistance after their current activity was recognized.
Yeah, I know chess is mostly an abstract thing that you play in your head, but the aesthetic of moving real pieces, and seeing virtual pieces move in response would be cool too see for at least 5 minutes 😉
Hoping that a version will appear in my lifetime that doesn't have the "Big Zucker" mascot.

We managed to put together a great team 👍
🤞 I really hope we will get the funding to be able to do all the fantastic things 🎉 we wrote in the project !

I'm working on a the submission of an Erasmus+ projet for #MixedReality#authoringtools for #school#education. The objective is to continue the research of my previous project #mixap 🇫🇷 so the tool can be used by #teachers all over the world

Totally agree. #mixap is #opensource tech and we want it to work with the equipment that schools already have (old tablets, computers...).
It's a progressive web app so it could also work with smart glasses but I've never tried.
I call it #MixedReality because interacting with real objects triggers events in the app but you can also use the term #AugmentedReality. The definitions keep on changing with the new hardware.
I’m honestly baffled as to what audience Zuck is targeting with his post on #VisionPro vs #Meta#Quest3. Surely the people buying $500 headsets aren’t the same as those buying $3500 ones.
Maybe it’s targeted toward recent Quest customers, to assure them that they didn’t make a mistake buying that product. But again, you’d have to buy seven Quest 3s to get one Vision Pro, so, I’m not sure that adds up.
Maybe Zuck is just telegraphing that he’s aware that Vision Pro beats them in several characteristics, and that he’s still committed to the Quest line.
The conclusion Zuckerberg draws in his Quest vs Vision Pro comparison isn't as important as the fact that he's stepping up to this conversation directly. https://somegadgetguy.com/b/3yi

If you're reading through headset reviews, and you catch a phrase like:
"It's a VR headset masquerading as an AR headset."
You can be fairly certain that this reviewer or journalist stopped paying attention to XR solutions back during Google Glass, and is only covering the segment now because "Apple" in the title of an article or video drives traffic.
You're not likely to get a good accounting of what Mixed Reality is really like today from this individual.
I’ve been getting comments from my friends who have #Apple#VisionPro (I don’t have one and will probably wait a while before I get one) and I’m starting to think that neither “VR” nor ”AR” describes the experience of using the device.
I think the correct descriptor is “Mediated Reality”. What you see in passthrough isn’t the real world—it’s what the device thinks the real world should look like. The FaceTime personas are what the device thinks you should look like—including your weird synthesized hands.
'A new study finds that headsets merging the external world with digital content via passthrough video technology can offer amazing experiences, but visual distortions, feelings of social absence, and motion sickness can undercut the vibe, dissuading prolonged usage.'

A little snark on my part, but also a genuine thing I'm curious about.
We've been hearing how Apple will do AR and VR right for over 11 years now from the tech press. A tech press that has largely downplayed every "face computer" released since Google Glass, while Apple has delivered NOTHING in this space for over a decade of journalist hype.
This is a pocket industry of people that have not participated or contributed much to the evolution of XR headsets.
Now that many of them are trying to jump on the Vision Pro hype train, monetizing that Apple review traffic, do we think those tech journos are really going to stick with Mixed Reality?
We've been hearing for years that only Apple can "save VR". Do we think Apple can keep their own hype journalists using it once the topic isn't trending anymore?
