I have a #Macbook Air M1 (on top, the last one with wedge design) and I STILL think it looks thinner and more modern.
If the M3 brought more ports, I’d be interested, but the M1 serves me both as a laptop and a desktop (Acer 27” display with built-in hub, I just connect one USB-C cable). Normally I’d want the new oooh shiny. But… I prefer my old shiny… It will need battery replacement soon. Still won’t be upgrading until there’s FaceID or cheap (‘lol’) 16GB RAM in M4.
There are a few ways that I can mirror my iPhone screen to my MacBook but is there any way that I can just have my iPhone open as an app on my desktop and just control it from there?
I just want to get into work, plug my phone into the computer, and not think about it - and then can reply to messages and access all the apps I need to via the desktop.

This is what I bought this week. In the UK it’s £799 from Amazon (£667 + VAT). Amazon offered me zero interest 5 x £160 per month payment option. I used that.
The MacBook Air M1 is a fab portable Mac. Even in the base configuration.
Visited an #AppleStore today. It’s the first time in a few years I’ve been to one.
From the store layout, I came away with the impression that in the coming years, the desktop #Mac 🖥️ will be subsumed by #AppleVisionPro 🥽. Perhaps, even the #MacBook 💻 will be a thing of the past.
I have had a base model M1 Air ever since it came out. It’s been great, but the battery is pretty bad at the moment (around 77% at best). Also, because it’s only the 8GB model, I’m starting to notice some slowdowns.
Do you think it would be worth it to invest in the new M3 Air? I’m planning to get the 16 or 24GB model this time.
I don’t want a Pro because it’s too big, and refurbished isn’t an option either (no refurbished store).
If you cannot use #Linux, which is better: Mac OS X or Windows
I ask because I am starting a job where the IT department can only supply me with a generic Windows PC or #MacBook. I actually want to run #VirtualBox#VMWare or something with Linux (Guix OS) on the host machine, since most of the software I rely on is for Linux. I have tried #WSL but it has never been a good user experience for me.
I am leaning toward Mac OS X just because it seems to require less memory than Windows but both Mac and Windows ask for a minimum of 4 GB, and I want the host OS to take as little memory as possible and leave as much as possible for the guest Linux OS. Also, its a #Unix system with #Homebrew, and in my experience the native versions of most Linux software work pretty well on Mac OS X.
Does anyone have experience with all three operating systems who can offer advice?
My #MacBook doesn't detect my external monitor any more after I installed some updates... It's drawing power from the USB-C connection but isn't detecting the display. Does anyone know how to fix this? I'm on Monterey so the fix I found on the #apple support page doesn't seem to be available on my mac... https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/mac-help/mchla25b377d/mac
Okay, I figure this is the right place to ask this question:
Where does a person start to learn how to install Ubuntu (Linux) on a MacBook so that it works smoothly?
I get the sense there are a dozen tweaks you can/should do to any given installation to really work with the hardware, and I'm hoping MacBooks are enough of a known quantity that there are clear instructions.
A discussion forum where I can ask questions would be lovely, but I'll take whatever's good.
Dell 27" U2723QE monitor: highly recommended! Works like a docking station with a single USB-C cable connected to my #MacBook Pro (video + charging). All other devices, including Ethernet cable, are connected to monitor. Also, it supports connecting two computers at the same time with built-in KVM
I think I’d like to buy a #Macbook. What’s a good model for a mostly average online daily user such as myself? I’d use it mostly for internet stuff and maybe some gaming / emulation.
(P.S. I understand why you would but don’t recommend non-Macbooks pls.)
Dziwna sprawa.
My hand-me-down Macbook shuts down the screen every ten minutes or so. At first it dims, then a minute or so later, it shuts off. Only way I have to get around this is to close the lid and re-open. Help! This shouldn't be this way.
My mother’s MacBook Pro (2017, non Touch Bar) intermittently dies with a “startup disk not found” error (blinking folder icon with a question mark). My latest hypothesis is that it happens when the battery is above about 85% charged. I have replaced the battery but no change. Anyone heard of anything like this? #macOS#MacBook#MacBookPro
Jeśli używasz #MacBook z #Notch i masz na nim apkę #BetterTouchTool, to zachęcam do przetestowania mojego presetu, który zamienia zwykłego bezużyteczngo notcha w Dynamicznego Notcha.
Ummm...I think my 2012 Macbook Pro is finally dying. 😵 It won't finish turning on and was making ticking noises so I forced it to turn off by holding down the power button. I have it backed up on Time Machine but I don't know if I can transfer what's backed up on the Macbook Pro to a newer computer. 😆
