Has anyone found the tech specs of the new #iPad Pro Magic Keyboard? I'm curious how much lighter and thinner the whole thing will be with a keyboard, because IIRC the previous one was actually pretty heavy (heavier than MBA a bit even?)
My Mastodon bubble absolutely hates #Apple's ad for the #iPad Pro. And I absolutely agree – it's in very bad taste.
It is also … a weird miss?
I guess the idea and the silliness might make sense for a affordable product aimed at teenagers and students: «Hey, here is a product that simulates all that stuff at a reasonable price, so you can experiment and figure out what speaks to you.» 🧵1/2
But the iPad Pro is not a reasonably priced product. It is a product (ostensibly?) aimed at professionals. It aims to be used by people that know and cherish all those tools that are being crushed.
They will not replace those with an iPad. At most, they will use the iPad to augment them.
This ad just does not make sense in that regard. 🧵2/2 #Apple#iPad
Apparently a lot of people (esp Japanese?) are upset at this new #Apple#iPad Pro ad from a couple of days ago. I guess I can see why though, a bit like throwing thousands' worth of food away just for content?
#Apple's new #iPad lineup is getting very stale and confusing. They are having a hard time justifying meaningful names and features behind the spec bump from M4 vs M2, nobody likely understands what happened to M3 in iPads, and the Pencil Pro can be so easily mistaken for a Pencil 2 or a Pencil USB-C. The pairing of compatible iPad/Pencil is especially such a big mess that they might as well bundle them together at this point to avoid trouble.
I reflexively cringed when I saw this ad. Not only is it wasteful, the message sent across appears to be that Apple literally crushes all the things you like to make the new iPad.
Apple's new iPad ad hasn't gone down well with creatives, according to @AxiosNews. The commercial showed a massive hydraulic press crushing musical instruments, arcade games, cameras and paint cans, and reopening to reveal just an iPad. "I'm definitely the target audience for the new iPad Pro but this ad is tone-deaf and insulting to artists of every kind," wrote cartoonist James Kochalka on X. "We think of our tools with reverence and respect, and enjoy a healthy dialogue with them. Our tools are like trusted companions on the journey of art." Here's more.
Marques Brownlee Completely Wrecks Apple's New iPad Lineup
"Taking advantage of all of this power is nearly impossible," Brownlee lamented. All that power and thinness isn't good for much if the old M1 iPad can mostly deliver the same experience for normies.
Seeing the reaction to that terrible #iPad ad from Tim's tweet, made me think of my post from yesterday.
The marketing department is definitely leading these launches - more than ever these days. https://mastodon.social/@darylbaxter/112401659089226854
Ufff, the #Apple#iPad advert, so tone deaf for our times.
Wrong on so many counts, celebrating the destruction of human creativity and artistry, and contrary to all the R-principles ... rethink, reduce, reuse, repair, recover, recycle, refurbish, remanufacture, repurpose, reclaim, retrofit, retro-cool, revival, reading the room ...
... all under the heavy, grey-steeled palm of an uncaring machine.
#iPad anecdote: Hanging at one of my favorite #Chicago cafes, The Drawing Room in the Chicago Athletic Association. It’s a hotel on Michigan Ave so you often see all walks here.
Four devices at the big work table: three iPads, one Windows laptop.
One woman is rolling with an Apple Pencil and writing on paper note cards. Another woman and I both rocking Magic Keyboards, she’s studying and taking notes.
I should point out that no one can get any work done on iPads. 🙃
Yeah, Apple has had a few advertising missteps in the past ("wHatZ uH cOmpUTer???), but this 'Crush' commercial is one of the darkest mistakes I think they've ever made. It feels like the intro to Fallout style dystopian story.
A far cry from the optimism of the 1984 commercial, Apple has become what they once rallied against... https://appleinsider.com/articles/24/05/08/apples-crush-ipad-pro-ad-sparks-intense-backlash-from-creatives
