The antifashist #protests in #Germany continue. Again hundreds of thausands of people took to the streets in many towns this weekend alone.
This is now I believe the 4th weekend in row. Wow! This gives me #hope in these dark times. ✊
This is mostly against the #AfD party alone, but also against #fashist sentiment in general because it has sadly poisoned large parts of society.
🇺🇦Witnessing the war firsthand during my 2023 humanitarian volunteer trip to Kherson sparked an enduring connection with my Ukrainian friends. Despite my distance, I continue to support them through donations.
💬Their recent message revealed the immediate dangers they face, making continued support more crucial than ever.
🇺🇸 For those in the US: call your reps, write letters, demand continued support for Ukraine.
Mais ??? C'est le mois de #Février qui commence aujourd'hui !
Avec ces jolies journées à 20°, l'été est à nos portes et les curateurs de la FNsea surfent sur la misère des paysans.
#Palestine has hope. Say it with me. Palestine has hope. Palestine has hope. Shit like this has happened in the past, and there have always been survivors to tell the tale. Palestine has hope. Palestine has #hope. It’s true.
Maybe there's reason to hope that the fascist narrative of a "strong leader" who solves all problems is no longer so entrenched. There are demonstrations not only here in #Germany, but now also in #Austria. Slovakians demonstrate against their Putin-friendly government. The Poles are restoring their democracy, and hopefully #Trump will soon be in prison.
Israelis are on the streets against Netanyahu, and Ukraine is still fighting for its democracy at great cost. #Hope#WhenWeStandTogether
When I come back from my holiday in early March sunrise here will be just about 7am. At the moment it’s 8.09am. I’m really looking forward to being able to run outdoors in daylight, there are too many trip and slip hazards for me to feel comfortable running around here in the dark even if was wearing a head torch. Gotta keep the faith that the sun will do its thing as we creep towards spring #hope
Lately I've noticed an increase in very pessmistic posts here. The topics are varied: COVID, AI, capitalism. Sometimes valid points are included. But the hopeless tone is the opposite of what we need.
We know there is hope, that activism can and does make a difference. Give people hope and they will act. 1/
Just read @pluralistic 's blog post about the difficulty that @2600 is having, both with its publication and producing the #HOPE con. This is tragic - I've never attended HOPE, but I've seen many videos and read so many recaps and articles inspired by it. Support 2600 today!
Today I learned that “sundown towns” with their daily siren blasts that remind non-white people to leave town STILL EXIST.
This Nevada town stopped their daily sirens only LAST YEAR, and only because Nevada had passed a law that prohibits their use. Their Town Board Chairman even entertained both-siding the issue during a session. How many more of these towns still exist that carry on this explicitly racist practice?
The enshittification of email has led to their announcement emails getting filed to spam by Google etc al. (We run our own mailserver and have been wrestling with this for years, but at least our livelihoods don't depend on it!)
But after the 2018 HOPE, the Hotel Pennsylvania was demolished to make way for the Penn15 (no, really) skyscraper, a vaporware mega-tower planned as a holding pen for luxury shopping and empty million-dollar condos sold to offshore war-criminals as safe-deposit boxes in the sky. The developer, Vornado (no, really) hasn't actually done all that – after demo'ing the Hotel Pennsylvania, they noped out, leave a large, unusable scar across midtown.
