Some #Canadian provinces have recorded a rise in #unclaimed#dead bodies in the past few years, with next of kin citing #funeral costs as a growing reason for not collecting loved ones’ remains.
This has prompted at least one province to build a new storage facility, while demand for #MemorialFundraisers surged.
The overall cost of a funeral in #Canada at the top end has increased to about US$8,800 from about US$6,000 in 1998, industry trade group estimates showed.

unless you absolutely hate your birth family and want to make their lives really difficult - get your affairs in order.
Pre-pay your funeral if you can, or make sure the insurance has the authority to directly pay out the undertaker.
Because to sort out the mess without a will, relying on the legal system alone, it is a nightmare for those left behind.
Especially if they live in another country.
Yesterday I was helping clean up my Aunt's #estate, before her #funeral. And I tripped on the front lawn, crashed to the ground. I tore Upen my right elbow, wrenched out my right shoulder and had another #concussion. So I'm a total mess today. And the way concussions work will be for days/weeks 🤬
I haven't really shared my cemetery photos here. I travel a lot throughout the year, visiting cemeteries, primarily looking for handmade grave markers.
This is probably my favorite. I have yet to figure out the head on the crucifix. Although the text hints to a Biblical song, as does the crucifix, the head looks like an animal of some sort.

I've been talking for a long time about starting a side business where I go decorate graves. Sometimes right after burial for when family visits over the following week. Sometimes people want to visit for an anniversary or birthday.
"This is my memory picture. It contains sun, a terrace, and three women set apart by 20 years of life, respectively. It also contains all the planned and unplanned grief. It contains war, invisible, but on our lips." —Maggie Levantovskaya for @longreads
My grandmother, Patricia Laurella, passed away at 1:11 AM on June 2nd, with her son and daughter at her side in her final moments. She was 76 years old and fighting cancer.
At this time, we are about $1200 short of hitting the funding for the arrangements for her #memorial and burial. If you can spare $10, I humbly ask for your donation.
I had to scramble to put together a #GoFundMe to help raise #funeral funds for my grandmother, Patricia Laurella. I will be adding more photos and stories as updates over time. If you could share the campaign with a boost, or even chip in a couple of bucks here and there, that would mean the world to my family.
We hope to raise $7000.
Warning, there is a recent photo of her near the bottom of the page that shows the ravages of #cancer, so be wary.
Lost a dear friend from my days on the station today, one of the few friends who didn't abandon me when I came out.
I'm not sure when her funeral is yet but I know I'm really going to struggle to get there, but I'd desperately like to.
I somehow need to pay for flights and accommodation for two people (I struggle to care for myself at home, let alone travelling so I need someone there). I aldo need to hire a wheelchair because I'm not able to get around properly and don't currently own one. I assume there will be incidental costs too.
I have no idea what this will cost yet and can't really book any of it until I have money to pay for any of it.
I know I ask for a lot, I'm sorry, and I know it's not the most important thing in the world. But if you could spare anything to let me say farewell it would mean so much.
Whatever happens I truly appreciate the love and support you all give me. ❤️
