Did you know that the first female supercentenarian (someone reaching the age of 110) was also the first person whose life spanned three centuries?
Margaret Ann Neve was born in Guernsey in 1792. Her father was a wealthy privateer who died aged 49.
She remembered the #French#Revolution & visited #Waterloo just after the battle. She was married but childless. She did not eat or drink between meals, climbed an apple tree aged 110 & got her first ever illness at age 105.
Many British adults regret not concentrating in their French or German lessons at school. Most believe that languages should again become compulsory in school.
Many feel ashamed that they cannot speak another language and would welcome the opportunity to learn.
Only 21% of UK adults said they can have a conversation in a modern language that's not their mother tongue, according to a YouGov poll commissioned by the British Academy.
making an #introduction for the new people who are looking for people to follow!
i am a #nonbinary#transguy from #germany, i am #disabled with #mecfs, #eds, #mcas & co and can infodump you about DIY #chronicIllness management for hours on end, i use a #wheelchair, i have messed up sleep, i am also very neurodivergent and mentally messed up but i have moved away from identifying myself with psychiatric diagnoses.

New at my Patreon... The NGV asked Iranian-French designer India Mahdavi to create colourful spaces in which to hang Pierre Bonnard's art. But does it work?
One of the trickier things about #French is that the language doesn't differentiate between "he/him" and "it". Martin bought a book. He/it was from Denmark.
Does anyone have a recommendation on a comprehensive intermediate #French program? Something that would take you from A2/B1 to C1? Everything I’ve seen is either way too easy or just…disorganized. University classes are, in my experience, both too easy and too focused on formalities.
I need something that is very precisely formulated, with a specific schedule and syllabus, so that “motivation to figure out what to do next” doesn’t come into play. I’m willing to pay for it.
Unlike other #nuclear#states , #France has chosen to reprocess its nuclear #waste on a massive scale, first at La Hague and then partly in... #Russia .While this saves 20% of #natural#uranium in #French nuclear #power#plants ,the #choice is politically highly questionable, since not only has it already accumulated 100 tonnes of #plutonium stored in France, which represents an enormous #risk , but it also contributes to financing the #Russian#state and, consequently, its #war in #Ukraine .
Googling around for a Julia Child recipe mentioned in the Julie/Julia blog (I didn't feel like going to the bookcase): Chou rouge à la limousine (braised red cabbage with chestnuts). I ran across a French blog with lots of recipes turning traditional recipes into plant-based ones. As I'm trying to eat more plant based that'd be perfect: no more bacon in this one. They have some interesting takes on other recipes too. I'm using the built-in local-only Firefox Translation plugin backed by Bergamot to translate it into English and it does a pretty good job. So I'm getting plant-based/vegan translations of French recipes translated into English :) #PlantBased#Vegan#French#Mozilla#translation

Welcome. It's not that I am #NewToMastodon, but I am rather #neuhier with regards to the server I am on, so please allow to introduce myself, politely:
This is a rather private profile, with occasional toots around German and local #politics, #football and my personal life decisions (they’ll bring me to hell, I bet, if you believe in such stuff).
I'm #antifascist, and a #nocar person, and from that I think it is easy to conclude on the rest of my political views. If in doubt, please ask. Be prepared that most of my views are leaning #left - Hegelian.
Having worked in #ops and considering myself as #philosophy nerd for years, I am currently looking into #dev and #infosec a bit more to find a more sustainable way of living as I am sure that humankind needs to change in that regards, and these four have to play a major role in that change.
Living in #Leipzig, #Germany I am happy to answer all questions around topics taking place in mid Europe, as I consider myself as European rather than German.
It's a good day. After a quiet, smoky day at home yesterday, I started in #kimchi, made aloo palak with eggs for breakfast, watched the second-last episode of #MyLovelyLiar with my #kdrama peeps in 3 countries, and now, it's time to finish the kimchi and get the laundry done.
I'll start yoga strong classes this week as well as a #French discussion group. #hangul learning is going quite well. I made a Quizlet set with a lot of common words/phrases in K-dramas. #sewing coming up on Wednesday.
🇬🇧🗣️ #English 'doesn't exist' and is just badly pronounced #French, linguist claims 🇫🇷
« Bernard Cerquiglini, a linguistics professor from Lyon, points out that the English #language uses thousands of words taken from French about 1,000 years ago »
