Flash flooding in Pago Pago (which apparently is covered by the National Weather Service) #PagoPago#Flood (Wondering if anyone in Pago Pago is actually on the Fediverse?)
Snippet of the #flood inundation mapping I did with #Sentinel1#SAR with my new SAR method I'm tentatively calling, Ogre. SAR data courtesy of @CopernicusEU . Image acquisition 14Z on 06 Dec. 2023.
This car park serves a small kiddies play area and always floods after any significant rain. It’s been tipping down all day so the sunset was reflected nicely in the water.
After record rain fall during an atmospheric river weather event earlier this week, the Snoqualmie River flooded roads and farmland in rural King County south of Duvall, Washington, yesterday.
Khan Younis residents say Israel has showered the area with leaflets quoting a verse in the Quran.
Palestinians deciding whether to flee the city as Israeli tanks and troops move closer viewed the quoted verse – “The flood overtook them as they were wrongdoers” – as an ominous portent.
Residents are convinced the reference to the epic flood of Noah in the Quran and Bible “means something much worse is coming”.
Recent heavy downpours in the Lower Volta area of Ghana led to the worst flooding in the region’s history. The flooding was caused by a spillage (a deliberate release of water) from the Akosombo Dam, the country’s biggest hydroelectric dam. Over 26,000 people were displaced. No deaths have been officially announced. The last recorded spillage was in 2010.

(To remedy this issue, Goetz says the city has applied for money through the federal government’s #Disaster#Mitigation and Adaptation $Fund (#DMAF). He says an application was sent on July 2 of 2022, shortly after the fund re-opened after a 13-month closure due to lack of money.
Since then, Goetz says the city has received radio #silence from #Ottawa on its 165-page application.)

"I pray for the day people stop taking polls that have been wrong since 2016 as any sort of gospel. These polls have been shown to be conservative leaning and the polls showing Biden leading are suppressed. Stop feeding into the fear. Remember Steve Bannon’s flood the zone with shit? That is more of the same with these polls. Come on"

It was close. Around 12pm the peak was reached 20cm more and a lot more boats would have lost their lines. But overall in this harbor we were lucky. My Lilli is fine. In a few ours the water is low enough I can go on board and check there. Some others where not so lucky. #baltic#flood#storm

"As many as 2,000 people may have been drowned after a powerful storm unleashed catastrophic #floods in the eastern Libyan city of #Derna.
The deaths occurred after a powerful storm and heavy floods led to the collapse of two ageing dams, which released a swollen fast-moving river that simply washed away at least one neighbourhood."
"“It can’t really be [overstated] how important the infrastructure issue is, because that’s one of the main catalysts for climate displacement,” Benjamin Freedman, an analyst at the Middle East Institute, told Al Jazeera.
The failing dams, alongside migrants “who weren’t necessarily properly settled”, created the “perfect storm for an outrageous humanitarian disaster”, he added."
