I'm super impressed, it installed easily, it scales easily, it's really clean, the admin UI is simple and intuitive, it looks like #Discourse but without the "we only ship a container, if you want better then buy our hosting" nonsense! Top. 👌 #foss
Just had an amazing call with @devnull of #nodebb on behalf of #flarum. His progress on their #federation implementation is already quite impressive. We've decided to keep in touch, share and collaborate on supported FEPs and regularly touch ground in the future.
@luceos That is my sincere hope. You and I are in sync on many things, and the future looks bright for #flarum.
I am very excited to pave the way for #forum software on the #fediverse, and it'll only make things better when Flarum joins up too.
If you really want @mastodonmigration and @fediversereport to go nuts, we'll have to publicly commit to close inter-compatibility and cross-migrations too 😅
Disappointed, but not surprised, by the utter lack of interest in #ActivityPub over at #XenForo.
XF 2.2 was released in Sep 2020. XF 2.3 will drop sometime this year, however, IMHO, none of the new features were worth waiting 3+ years (a lifetime ago) for.
@ellie@rail as @luceos mentions #Flarum, I too mention @nodebb . Forums are still around, and there are excellent modern iterations of the forums of old.
Me, php senior developer and passionate open source maintainer, is hoping for a new #job for 2024. Anything preferably remote (located in CEST), working with #php / #Laravel, one specific product, regardless of stack complexity, up to 32 hours/week so I have time left to manage #flarum.
Check my personal website for information about me and my linkedin for a digital resume; https://luceos.com.
I'm guessing the progress in ActivityPub support in Discourse and GitLab, and the emergence of threadiverse, will all be adding both motivation and complexity to the job of adding federation support to Flarum.
I want to set up a forum were it's possible to access posts/comments over an api to process the data with a script and post the result back to a thread.
The last days I played around with #lemmy, but it has sooo much issues, that I might throw away the work of the last 2-3 weeks, if I find something better.
@utopify_org#flarumhttps://flarum.org/ would be the obvious choice, but I suggest sticking a bit longer with #Lemmy as the federated aspect of it really has a lot of potential even if it is still a bit buggy.
Has anyone played with #Flarum and its #feddle extension to integrate it with the Fediverse? I loved Flarum from its birth, and I wonder if it could be put on par with Lemmy and other such stuff
Just discovered that #Flarum will also be joining the #Fediverse by adding #ActivityPub integration. This is more forum software that will be joining us soon! And I hope they have group federation functionality!
For the moment, when Lemmy can connect to tens of thousands (MAUs), & Kbin can connect to millions (MAUs). Personally I'm going to go with my Kbin account.
Both platforms need development. Also other forum platforms are taking up ActivityPub #NodeBB#Flarum#Discourse so this space on the Fediverse is going to expand & evolve quite a bit. #Fediverse#RedditMigration

phpbb is very old school, i've used #Flarum for a couple of forums and is much better in basically every way. And at least they keep up with latest php versions.
The lemmyverse sounds perfect, but it ignores alternatives like kbin etc. It would be better if we didn't end up with the situation we have with Mastodon where people assume Mastodon is the fediverse....
It’s getting closer and closer. Soon enough groups from #mastodon, channels from #calckey, magazines from #kbin and forums from #discourse and #flarum will all talk to one another.
@fediverse What type of social media do you feel is lacking most in the fediverse?
To elaborate, there are a lot of different types of social media already on the fediverse such as microblogs, regular blogs, image sharing, link sharing and video sharing.
Personally, I'd love to see a gaming-focused social media platform on the fediverse.
A federated #forum software. But most likely there are a couple in the works. There's The Pavilion cooperative working on a plugin for #Discourse and some time ago a #Flarum maintainer told me they are working on adding #ActivityPub support too. And there's #LemmyBB which has forum-like aspects.
What do we call the Lemmy/Kbin Universe?
