A big hello and welcome to all the new people who've joined the past couple of days. It's great to have you here!

Our admins are @ada and @supakaity.
Ada leads the front of house and moderation side of Blåhaj Zone, while Kaity leads the back-end and maintains Hajkey for us & a small group of other instances.

Our server runs a fork of that we call (pron. hi-key). A summary of the features unique to Hajkey.

Here's the link to our Community Documents such as our Community Guidelines, Terms of Service, and Privacy Policy.

If you're wanting to migrate from a account, here's a step by step instruction guide for moving to Blahaj.zone.

We also have a server available for signups at https://lemmy.blahaj.zone and a server that's soon to be open, for those looking for - like communities. They can also be interacted with from here or other places in the Fediverse.

I'm neither a mod nor admin here, but am happy to help if I can. I've written this about how the five main timelines work and this popular post about .

If you haven't already, please take the time to post an . Here's my here and I've attached a with

I look forward to getting to know some of you more.

Kind love xx

So has anyone migrated a Mastodon instance over to FireFish (né CalcKey) yet?

Asking for a friend... #mastodon #firefish #fediverse #fedifish #fishyfish #fish

Do any #mastodon apps actually fetch a FULL list of someone's followers FROM THEIR SERVER?

I see the Mastodon android app does not. Neither does #Tusky.

I'd like the option - even if it's an additional button press cos it might be slow...

Then we could import this list to follow (or block). Seems like it'd be very handy... any thoughts here on why we don't have this?

Anyone anyone?

Is this something #FireFish (né CalcKey) does?

CC @atomicpoet what am I missing here? #fediverse

https://catodon.social/notes/9nvp68a5a10zrdi2

I’m happy that I made the move to @Sharkey in late November as I was not really confident in the direction Firefish is heading. It was evident with the slow performance and local timeline would fail to load. Activity was decreasing on Sakurajima Social before the move because of how bad of an experience it was.

After the move, activity started to pick up again thanks to the improved performance. Misskey 13 resolved all the issues Misskey 12 forks are facing that caused Foundkey to go EOL with Firefish in the mess it’s currently in (Iceshrimp has the same scaling issues, but at least from what I heard, that team is at least responsive.

With Firefish Social in a worse mess as there are reports no new posts are being fetched, making the timeline 5 days old and the admins completely unresponsive. At this point, I don’t know if it’s even possible to migrate the account off Firefish Social if federation is not working on that server. This is why we dumped Firefish for Sharkey.

With that, besides our server, a handful of established Firefish servers are starting to jump ship to IceShimp or Sharkey. Infosec Exchange’s Firefish server transitioned to IceShimp. It should be even easier to migrate to Sharkey as there are documentation on how to do it.

I do recommend Sharkey over IceShrimp since it has a public timeline view (for visitors), more moderation tools and performance. The Sharkey Team is very responsive and helpful. Of course, they are adding back features that are in Firefish.

But I have a feeling that at the rate things are going for Firefish, it may have a bleak future ahead unless it can turn things around.

It’s unfortunate to see Firefish turn out like this, but it’s not surprising.

OK, so if I’m changing my username, which necessitates a new account, should I try a different instance, or even…. #Firefish?

So! Uh...

What use to be called Calckey is now called, #FireFish?

Well, it's a flaming hot name of fantastic proportions if I have ever heard one...
Great, now I need to refollow the 'other' crowd, again! Good thing most of them I still have in my followers list.., particularly the crowd of 'CheeseCakes', which sadly makes up most of that list!

I'll do that this afternoon...

The new upcoming text search feature on #Mastodon seems very convoluted and hard to grasp, especially when adding the complexity of which things federate and how. Plus I predict it will most likely decimate the use of hashtags, which are more useful and better. Not that I know how search and all that works on #Firefish but I kinda want to switch because it seems like a really good platform.

What’s a good #Sharkey client on #iOS? It almost seemed like I was able to log into my instance on #IceCubes but it kept just pushing me back after the consent release. The #PWA works really, really well though and is actually better looking vs #Firefish.

For anyone who has moved from Mastodon to any *key variant, do you feel like your engagement is different?

I feel like I don't get quite as much interaction as I did on mastodon. Part of it could be the instance I was on (shout-out to urusai.social for being awesome!) But I feel like it's different since I moved to Firefish and now to Sharkey. I try to use hashtags in my posts too, but I don't know if that is helping or not.

I just hate the spirit of witch hunt swarming around the #fediverse

People have the right to make mistakes, even to say ignorant stupid shit and apologize, amend themselves.

We're all humans. #firefish devs are not criminals.

This "group think" to cancel entire servers for one supposed instance of X or Y deviating 1 sec from the norm is very #Cultish and it's honestly very sad.

Firefish is not Gab damn it!

single line replies in timelines for iceshrimp, firefish and potentially other derivatives. see quoted post for how it looks. extremely hacky and might mess up. will not work in sharkey or other "modern" misskey instances

requires a browser with nyative nested css and :has (so, literally anything from the last year or so)

We finally have a statement from the former Firefish owner/lead Developer. It seems that the Firefish site and Gitlab is given to one of the maintainers. Still, I kind of consider it EOL as the new person in charge isn't a programmer. It's pretty much doesn't change anything unless a new lead developer decides to take on the project. I do wish Kainoa the best in his future endeavors.

There are other options, such as Sharkey, IceShrimp and Catodon. However, IceShrimp is doing a rewrite in C#, so it's basically going to be it's own thing, which might be interesting to try, but not something I would use outside of personal use. Same with Catodon, which might use IceShrimp's C# rewrite.

I have a lot of trust in Sharkey's team in making sure something like this doesn't happen while making it community driven. Taking the Glitch-soc approach like with Mastodon will make Sharkey a more viable option since it’s just Misskey with extra features, some making it to mainline Misskey like with some things from Glitch-Soc making it to vanilla Mastodon.

Sad to hear about #Firefish, but it's something to keep in mind.

If one person is keeping a project alive and is unable to build a long term, sustainable team around the project, relying only on that individual, that project is fragile.

Apropos of nothing, I'd love if I could build a long term, sustainable team around #owncast, if this sparks your interest at all! If I get hit by a bus tonight, Owncast is dead tomorrow.

Alright, I know I haven't given many updates on #Catodon, because frankly there's not a lot to say. We're reorganizing, reprioritizing etc. Things are going slow. I haven't given up on the project, I think we have an interesting approach which is worth exploring, but we're short on human resources atm. Hopefully this will change and things will get exciting again, but we're not there yet. I'll let you know.

However, I wanna talk about another project I'm also sort of involved in lately - #Iceshrimp! So Iceshrimp also started as a #Firefish fork but they are currently rewriting the whole thing on .net/C#! Both the backend and frontend are being rewritten in C# - the frontend on Blazor. AFAIK this is the only fedi project written on .net and I'm really curious for the result!

This has been announced many months before, and Iceshrimp-js is in feature freeze, to allow all efforts to concentrate in the rewrite. Many people were skeptical because it's a huge project - which is true. So let me tell you that finally #Iceshrimp's rewrite will be entering beta soon - meaning, probably before the month is through!

This will practically be a brand new fedi platform, with a UX similar to Firefish (at least initially), with great Mastodon API support for compatibility with existing apps, hopefully with much better performance and a cleaner codebase. I'll keep you posted on how things progress!
