I've been learning Japanese for over four years now. I honestly really love learning languages in general!

Relatively new Linux user (Arch, btw) and beginner in homelab things. Unfortunately pretty good at JavaScript and doing it for a job. I'm getting really into Android dev right now as well!

I frequently talk about my anticapitalist views and other political topics, but I always use a content warning.

I love Fedi and am trying to break out of my comfort zone and meet more people.

Oh, and I have a music degree, and I really love music theory and guitar/piano.

The lyrics are... interesting, to be sure. But the song is so good. And it has an absolutely beautiful key change between the instrumental/solo and last chorus. One of those songs that always brings out the music nerd in me.

The tire of my dad's truck fell off while he was going 70mph on the highway and ripped the axle/brake line out, but luckily there was no traffic so he was able to pull aside and slow down...

I'm so happy that he is uninjured and everyone is safe, but God that was a scary phone call.

@CosmicTrigger I didn't want to jump in on the thread so I made a new post. I was looking at the post in question https://social.edist.ro/@CosmicTrigger/112443663278727270 and I found that it does not federate out to other instances. I can see your alt text when I visit your instance, that works fine. What's even weirder though is that not all of your alt text is unable to be federated. I can see the alt text in https://social.edist.ro/@CosmicTrigger/112451112831841303 for instance. It federates fine to glitch-soc. Both woem.men and transfem.social do not pick up the orca alt text, but my gf's private glitch-soc instance does pick up alt text when loading. You may want to notify your instance admins. There might be a misconfiguration somewhere. I don't know where that'd be unfortunately I am not that well versed in administrating a mastodon glitch-soc instance but maybe someone who's in my circle can help? I've never seen this before.

@CosmicTrigger @puppygirlhornypost Maybe there's some kind of caching involved? I know Sharkey does some level of caching on the server because I've edited posts before and it's taken a while for the edit to actually show up on my timeline even when refreshing

Clarification on some discourse being brought up

  1. Why is the joinsharkey.org site not available

A: the site was very buggy and wasn't of much help and we currently don't have the resources (as in developers) to work on a new one, as we like to focus on Sharkey itself not marketing, we have started redirecting the domain to the documentation and have fixed any links in the docs.

  1. Sharkey funding for server hosting issues is used to run a minecraft server

A: We did have hosting issues but those were not responsible for the website being down. Sharkey is a project of TransFem.org, that means it runs on the same servers as TransFem.org, we did have a funding campaign for collecting funds to use for hosting TransFem.org this was reposted on the Sharkey account as Sharkey is a part of TransFem.org, it was also stated that said money would be used for hosting TransFem.org and it was never said it would solely be used for Sharkey, with that said yes there is a Minecraft server running on the same servers as Sharkey is, that being the TransFem.org servers which said Minecraft server is for. just like the TransFem.social fedi instance that runs on the same servers because its part of TransFem.org

  1. The lead is just playing minecraft instead of working on the project

A: this is partially false, the project lead isn't much involved in actual development and more in sysadmin and management and has recently taken a bit of a break for mental health reasons and started playing on the modded minecraft server, that said they are still helping out when they are needed and this has no effect on Sharkey whatsoever

please keep in mind we are just a bunch of hobbyists working on this software, we do this for free, in our own time, the money we make with donations goes to hosting costs of the entire TransFem.org

@ozzy @Sharkey @Linux Please for the love of God stop being an asshole about this. All you've been doing is shitting on this entire project because the website to encourage people to join Sharkey (which as was stated above was NOT promised) is not active. Stop saying the whole "you can just make a quick website" because it's not that simple. Having a shitty website that was thrown together would not help the project at all. The website is not that important. the damn wiki link is not that important. What is important is continuous work to make Sharkey better, which is happening.

Sharkey is an amazing project and just because the priority is on making current users have a better experience instead of marketing to new users with a website, does not make it any less amazing of a project.

Maybe Aria doesn't have the cute UI Misskey has but i like it, it's really compatible with Sharkey and very light ​:neocat_phone:​

And it also has options for drive, list, antennas, misskey games, themes, channels, pages, tabs and MFM

@kimby I love it too! I also got the bubble timeline working, it's not built in to Misskey but there's an option to add custom endpoints. the endpoint for bubble timeline is notes/bubble-timeline

Annotated strings in kotlin with ParagraphStyles or SpanStyles work great for simple forms of MFM (Misskey-Flavored Markdown), but the more complicated they get, the more I'm starting to think I need to look for a better option. Like, what the hell do I do for a blockquote? Or better yet, what the hell do I do for the animated ones? I'm getting really frustrated. If anyone better at Kotlin / Android development has any suggestions for me, please let me know because I am running out of ideas.

@irfan @anianimalsmoe Looks like Misskey makes an API call to instance-name.com/url and it spits back url information. Don't have time to look into the implementation but I wonder if it is less stressful on the server, since this post specifically seems to imply the problem is with Mastodon.

I think the reason I can't decide what browser to use is that I can't decide what degree of privacy protection I want. I want to keep my data out of the hands of greedy tech companies, but I don't know if I care about fingerprinting enough to use something like Mullvad Browser, which has Tor-like effect caused by everyone using the same configuration.

I almost think I just want to stick to using plain Firefox with my own hardening or something like Arkenfox. I don't know. So many layers to what seems like a simple decision. Any thoughts?
