New review! 280 - Tekken 4

This week we continue our journey through the weird world of the Mishima family with perhaps the most contentious entry in the series!

2024 gaming backlog no.14 - Super Smash Bros. (N64)

The game that put crossover fighting on the map, the original SSB doesn't entirely hold its weight anymore. It's a lovely curiosity though, and a fine part of any N64 collection - rude that my boy Luigi is so hard to unlock though!

This past weekend, we stopped at a tiny arcade at the hotel I stayed at with the family. They have one of the two greatest arcade games of all time - Ms. Pac-Man and Mortal Kombat II.

Don't argue with me...that's totally a fact.

Regardless, as the main screens cycled through I took this picture. There was a screen that showed up with details on how to order the soundtrack as well as two different Mortal Kombat comic books back when this dropped in 1993.

I wonder...do you think that's still valid? And if not, do you think there's folks out there who still have copies of these comics / the CD? Cause...I kind of want them.

Also, who stood around in an arcade in 1993 with a pen and paper to write down all this information? Cause I want to meet those people too...

...And borrow the soundtrack from them.

Okay, @miona's has a theme of - looking for songs where elements from video game music is incorporated into the beat / melody of a song.

Let's take it back to 1995 when Bone Thugs-N-Harmony sampled the underrated fighting game Eternal Champions in their aptly titled track, "Eternal."

The new MOrtal Kombat 1 is definitely a high point for the franchise. I personally like the game and I'm usually just not a fan of Mortal Kombat in general, especially when I feel that there are better fighting game franchises out there like StreetFighter and the Marvel Vs. Capcom series of fighters. I'd put this in A-tear for sure but the PS2 MK games will always be in god-tear. If you disagree, fine but come up with actual reasons instead of fighting me. , , , .

So this is going to sound pretty obvious, especially from someone.who grew up in the era when games had manuals, but I am learning so fucking much from finally reading the Killer Instinct manual 😅😅😅

Some potential season 3 patch notes are being deduced from a playable Johnny build at a major in Europe right now.

Note that all of this is deduced from people who are more likely to notice nerfs than buffs. These may or may not be final, since this build is probably weeks old, and things found here may not be present in the patch we play a week from now. I promised more pics of my ! Built from scratch from acrylic plates,, always in progress, and surprisingly reliable, the SaltFighter V5a is the closest i get to feeling like a shonen protagonist.

I built it from scratch in 2014 and have been iterating on it since, swapping out parts Ship of Theseus style.

With each new game i learn i add artwork of my main to a button. It's a symbol of where I've been. Who I've been.

I'm NaClKnight. Run the set.

The evolution of the Mortal Kombat series (blog.playstation.com)

The fighting game genre has many notable franchises. One of the earliest to earn iconic status is Mortal Kombat. It punched its way onto the arcade scene in 1992 and quickly found its way to the home console market, wowing players with at-the-time realistic visuals and controversial over–the–top gore. That controversial...
