Found only in Hawaii! A Hawaiian Whitespotted Toby hanging around an Oahu reef. Common locally, and not much bigger than the palm of your hand. Your #Hawaii#sealife#photooftheday
I use the web interface to access the friendsofdesoto.social instance and I've noticed recently that #Explore seems to now give a network error when using Firefox on Windows 10 Pro.
Is this just me? #mastodon#instance#question
Located just 2 hours east of Seattle, Big Four Mountain towers above the Mountain Loop Highway. But something bizarre is going on with the sedimentary layers of the mountain: one moment they're horizontal, like all sedimentary rock layers, but the next, they're vertical.
What happened 51 million years ago to rotate these layers to such an extreme position? https://bit.ly/3J30gJO
Not especially interesting from a distance, Scrawled Filefish are much more interesting with a little light on them. Your #Hawaii#sealife#photooftheday
Yellowfin Goatfish, aka Weke, are usually white but take on a reddish hue in the darkness of night, caves and overhangs. Your #Hawaii#sealife#photooftheday
Life is an adventure! May the artwork encourage you that the many twists and turns on our journey give us different perspectives on the landscape around us.
Sincere musings on #Threads seeing as how their feeds are (I’m assuming) algorithm-driven like Facebook and Instagram:
If someone from the Threads instance follows someone from Mastodon, couldn’t Meta just suppress the Mastodon user’s toots on the Thread user’s timeline?

Also when I reflect on it, I understand the concerns about Meta’s inclusion in the Fediverse changing the culture. If one instance is algorithm-driven, the #explore timeline may be cluttered up with clout-seekers and celebrities instead of what it showcases now: scientists, programmers, lawyers, journalists, writers, and quality (nerdy) shitposts.
And cute animals.
