Well #Trillanes isn't really wrong. #Duterte and his gang of #drugwar criminals are perhaps the most dangerous #fifthcolumn the #Philippines has faced yet since #WW2. Worse than the Japanese #fifthcolumnists in #Davao (which funnily enough is the same territory the Duterte clan has firm control of, like a fiefdom). But instead of working for the Japanese invaders they're working for the #Chinese communists this time.
The main collaborators being officials within #PNP leadership isn't really surprising either, because Duterte pampered the #police so hard (for example promising not to hold them accountable for clear-cut abuses of power in the drug war) during his 6-year rule.
It seems like #Marcos' strengthening of the alliance with the #US has convinced the #AFP not to defect to the Dutertes though. The Philippine #military is rabidly pro-American and Duterte had a hard time trying to balance having a pro-#China policy and appeasing the soldiers. :seija_coffee:
When you hear Filipino officials and foreign diplomats say the #drugwar situation in the Philippines has been "better" & "improved" under President Marcos, remember this: 604 HAVE BEEN KILLED under his watch.
No amount of "it was worse during Duterte" argument can - or should - minimize the outrageousness of this fact.

In March '24, 39 were killed in Marcos's drug war, the 2nd highest monthly total in his term (there were 41 killings in July '22).

#Marcos, if he was serious, should have explicitly vowed to give justice to #Duterte’s victims even at the start of his presidency in 2022. Right now, Lina and other widows feel like pawns in a chess game dominated by politicians who are trying to survive until the next elections. #Philippines
Many/most drug deaths are caused by #DrugWar laws that create an unregulated black market full of unknown and mislabeled substances - a deadly environment ripe for fraud that only benefits drug cartels.
If you are anti-drugs, you should be anti-#DrugWar.
Got so high I went into the kitchen and made a vegetable charcuterie. And I still spelled charcuterie right first try!
So basically, fuck everyone who ever told me this shit was bad for your health.
If you're in the US btw, you can get full delta 9 THC as far as I know, anywhere in the US now. Some regulatory bullshit where marijuana is banned but hemp isn't I think?
One thing I’ll never understand is why the GOP rails against Biden for stopping loads of fentanyl from entering the country. Every time there’s a major bust, they treat it like it means things are going badly for the country—when in fact it means the precise opposite. They are stopping more of the bad guys. You just can’t win with the GOP spin.
@georgetakei personally I think the #WarOnDrugs needs to end including cancelling all #VictimlessCrimes, purging all convictions, freeing as well as rehabilitating and reimbursing those affrcted by it.
Eyewitnesses described widespread destruction of neighborhoods in Gaza City from the Israeli strikes. All of the Gaza Strip's borders are closed, leaving Palestinian civilians with nowhere to escape and around a tenth of Gaza's population of about 2.3 million people internally displaced seeking shelter. Gaza has been under a blockade for 16 years.
@daveystew Drug Cartels are Warlords - and whether or not they're accepted as official representation is irrelevant.
The #DrugWar could be ended any day and #victimlessCrimes could be expunged as well as #OrganizedCrime defunded - it's just that that big donors are interested in the continuation of violence...
The way people talk about drugs and people who use drugs will never be not infuriating. It makes it impossible for me to appreciate you as someone who is empathetic or intelligent if in the blink of an eye you’re talking about how drug users alone are responsible for systematic violence (cartels), how they should just “not consume” and how “it’s not a necessity” or that they should “reevaluate their priorities”. Calling them useless drug addicts just makes you void of any humanity and you’re for sure on the top 5 of things wrong with this world, it honestly baffles me how ignorant and hateful people can be
@baphomeow It's time to end the #drugwar. The drug war has only lead to crazy profits for corporations. The war has not made us healthier or safer. Stop the drug war and disband the #DEA.
With toxic drugs the leading cause of death in B.C. for people aged 10 to 59, meet the compassion club breaking the law while proving its harm reduction initiative is working.
NEW: San Francisco is experiencing two drug-related deaths a day. Now the city has promised to clean up the streets with an old, familiar strategy – police crackdowns. Critics say it’s a return to the failed war on drugs.
"There are increased turf wars that are occurring because you have a raid here, and another group moves in. I mean, we’ve had gunfire and a murder during the middle of the day." - Dean Preston at a San Francisco Drug Users Union rally.
"It feels like the police are allowing this to happen, and then when they feel like it, they swoop in and pick people up, and we’re not really solving the problem." - Alexandra Pray with the San Francisco Public Defender's Office.
"Until some other entity, other than the police department, deals with this issue, it really doesn’t leave us with much of a choice." - Police Chief Bill Scott.
Whether you're a free market economist, a Scandinavian socialist, a libertarian, a green, or a liberal Democrat... we have enough in common on the social front to team up.
But... BUT. We aren't going to change things by keeping those who perpetuated the status quo in power. The Democratic Party might be "better" then the Republican party but it still is a far cry from "good." Personal belief, I guess, but you all deserve better.
I want to believe that we can work together. We can argue economics while we're restoring protections for #womensrights and the #lgbtqia communities, end the #drugwar and solidify #privacy rights while combatting #climatechange.
We have many of the same ultimate goals, even if we disagree on how to get there. So... let's talk about what real collaboration might look like.
