For decades, I've experienced pain in my teeth after warming up inside after being out in the cold for a while (e.g., 30 minute walk). (The "cold" doesn't even have to be very cold: low 50s F can do it to me.) The pain can be pretty severe, and last for hours. I've mentioned it to numerous dentists, but none have had anything helpful to say. Today, I finally found a paper describing the phenomenon. It's nice to know people know it's a thing, at least. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5736355/#teeth#pain#dentistry
Disappointed. Titanium implant in upper jaw got infected and had to be removed before I even got a plastic tooth screwed onto it. Now I have to wait another five months for the bone to regenerate before the surgeon can drill a new hole and put in another implant.
"I can say my techniques are very advanced … I bet I put more implants and do more bone grafting and surgeries every week than any dentist you know in England. A good dentist is about practice and hand skills and experience. I work hard, very hard, because more and more patients are arriving to my clinic, because in England they don’t find dentists."
The collapse in NHS dentistry and the Turkish dentists filling the gap.
#Budget#UKPolitics This article by Gary Stevenson is so good, please read every word of it.
“Whatever Jeremy Hunt says, traders know the rich will get richer and the poor will get poorer. And they’re paid millions to bet on it.”
This is what the world is - it is run by a minute elite for a minute elite and the rest of us, the masses, the natural world, we just don’t count. It is a #TragedyOftheNonCommons (will reshare my own piece on this below 1/n)
#FollowTheMoney 🧵 25/n back to a reality most of us in the UK inhabit on a daily basis: the crumbling public sector. Found this report on NHS dentistry’s struggle for survival really very moving just now. #NHS#dentistry#UKpolitics
NHS dentistry - there's a consultation proposal which "might" help. Overseas-trained dentists (except EEA) currently can't work until fully registered after a two part exam.Small fanfare for proposed provisional registration and working under supervision!
OK. But unless I'm missing something, how are these new dentists any more likely to do NHS work than private healthcare?? #NHS#dentistry

The latest #Tory wheeze is to pay dentists £50 for each new NHS patient they sign up - benefitting around a million patents.
The response from Shawn Charlwood, (British Dental Association) accused ministers of “rearranging the deckchairs”.
He went on to say 'This recovery plan is not worthy of the title. It won’t halt the exodus from the workforce or offer hope to millions struggling to access care'!
Uncovering advanced dentistry practices among Vikings
A collaborative study conducted by the University of Gothenburg’s Institute of Odontology and Västergötland’s Museum uncovered evidence of widespread caries, tooth modifications, and even attempts at dental treatment in the Viking Age population in Varnhem, Sweden...
Dental industry is being hit hard in #cybersecurity now after #HenrySchein was compromised they apparently are still trying to resolve issues. They had way too big of an ego I told them of issues way back in 2016 when I was last at the International Dental Show. But they focused too much on expansion that now it’s a convoluted mess of systems and products from acquisitions #infosec#dentistry#IT
Holy crap they’re fully automating tracing the arch in #dentistry using #AI and #ML. This blew me away as this was my first foray into #3dprinting years ago as this was a vital step to making dental surgical guides. It’s really changed since I stepped out of dental tech and glad I was invited as a guest to this event. #Infosec#IT
This is a 3D printer for dentistry that’s an SLA with a cartridge. Super fast super easy by D Fab. This company also makes printers for Cartier, Tiffany, and other major jewelers. They even taught me how they 3D print gold jewelry while here. #3DPrinting#3dprinter#dentistry
